strange blank molds

the other day my friend and i came across a guy who offered us 11 blanks for free... but the weird thing is, they are glassed. i am thinking they might be the positives that the blank company (Just Foam) uses to make the blank molds, but i dont know.

they are cut like blanks (Sawed off noses, big wide tail & nose , rounded rails all the way through), so we have confirmed that they are not surfboards. however, they are fun to surf finless.  :)

They have rice paper prints underneath the glass (of shapers. For example, O keefe)

They all have stringers (One of them even has a double stringer)

There is Pencil writing on them of dimensions and shapers names. some of them even say "For Scott"

can somebody confirm that they are positive molds? or are they something else. im very curious and befuddled.

we have already stripped the glass off some of them, but as soon as i can take pictures of the others I will upload them

Yeah sounds like they are the plugs from "Just Foam"

What you should do is take the one closest to the board you currently ride, fin the sucker, wax it up and ride it,

then you can answer the once and for all if ".... the blanks these days are so close to finish, you could probably not even bother shaping them"

Ive got a few from two manufacturers and they were double glassed and have the same fat outline. Mine were used in the early days of shaping machines when they could only do thickness profiling and deck roll so the machines rollers ran along the board as the cutter mimicked the shape on a fresh blank.

The double glassing allowed the board to be used to shape many boards and they had fat bums so they could be customised into either square tails or round/ swallow/square etc...

Two of mine are Tom Currens CI boards shaped by Al Merrick from the 90's , 6'4" and 6'8" used for Bob McTavishs Pro Curcuit Replica boards so yours might be real boards with the fins taken off too.

I'd keep the best example and use the rest.
