Strength of second glass coat

Hello…I’ve a 9’ EPS with the usual 6/6+6 glass job. It’s a great custom board, but after taking more than a few hits from the lip, I’m wondering if I should add a #4 to the bottom; I’ve noticed a few shapers/glassers here add that extra strength to their EPS boards. The other part of this question is, will adding an extra layer of glass after the initial lam be as strong ?  Thanks

Wouldn’t do it myself, but yes, you can add more cloth later.  Just like a ding repair, you would sand off top resin.  Sand until you just kiss the existing cloth.  Epoxy over existing epoxy.  Resin over existing resin.  Resin over Epoxy might seperate.

If you decide to do it, It’s all about the prep work.  Good scratches running in multiple directions.  60 grit or coarser.

Is it as strong?..not sure

Is it as good of a build as doing it with a 6/4 originally?..I would say NO

Your main risk will be separation between the two layers.

Not as strong, but stronger.

As said, prep work is key. Sand off the HC down to the weave, and lam as usual.

I did it on a board i make for a friend that it found too light. After good cleaning I sand top coat with my orbital sander and 40 grit then lam, no problem, this board is 3 years now and take serious lip of hollow hossegor beachbreack.

I did it again the same on a board (not from me) with a poly hotcoat on epoxy lam, well sanded to see waves of fiber but it’s separate after an impact.

Sorry for my frenglish

Thanks everyone, looks like it’s a ‘GO’ !
