I bought this Bing Levitator off the rack one year ago. This model has a slight stepdeck as well as a slight concave in the nose(love it!). After about 3 months, I noticed three or four stress cracks on the bottom going from rail to rail…All was good until a couple months ago, when I came out of the water and noticed that a piece of glass, which appears to be just the gloss coat, GONE…Directly over the logo…Of course, I could just take it to Ropers to be fixed, but I’d like to just do it myself. The board is kind of a “cream” color, and I’m not to worried about color matching. How would I go about repairing the stress cracks and missing gloss(?) over the logo at this point? Kinda bummed that the board had this happen within a year…Thanks in advance for any help.
sand to 80 grit in the damaged area, then regloss, resand, repolish. It may happen again, as it appears to be flexing in (under) the stepdeck area. If so you could reinforce the area with a 4 oz patch (or 2 oz if you are careful).
aside from the stress lines, there seems to be another back ground problem going on here, the laminators add ALL the logos after lamination and do this by applying the lam, sqeegeeing them down with a piece of cloth over them and pulling off the cloth as it gels. But they also paste over the lams and laps before hotcoating, this is what I’m getting to, it appears that the logo had hotcoat resin over it rather than lam resin and the layers have NOT had a chemical or mechanical bond, otherwise the resin could NOT lift as cleanly as what appears in the photo. I’m going to bring this up to Matt and have him take a look at this thread, you should if you are in close driving range bring the board up to the factory and show Matt in person
As Jim says, something’s amiss with this thing.
First, you did not lose a “piece of glass”. It looks as if the lam has delaminated from the foam. This is why it’s discolored and no longer clear. So, the layers have separated due to the stress/flexing and the lam is ‘floating’, so to speak. I agree that you should take it to the builder of same.
SammyA, the logo isn’t discolored…like Jim said, its basically gone in the area of missing glass…I emailed ing customer support last week. Matt replied to me this morning and suggested that I bring the board in, which I’m going to do this week. I’ve never seen this happen before, very odd. Thanks for the help.
