Stringer question

I am buying a couple of shortboard blanks. They have plywood stringers (uni directional, grain running longways). I have heard that Basswood is the preferred wood for stringers, but does that only apply to longboards or shortboards too? Are top quality shortboards made with basswood stringers?
thanks

I don’t see many plywood longboards but it’d say most short boards are ply (at least where I am).

My thoughts were like the good Doctor’s until I read here: http://usblanks.com/blank-options/stringer-selection-2/
