Hi All,
Just got a 1.5# density stringerless SUP blank for myself
and want to make a nice 10’6" flatwater paddler for summertime
workouts.
My question is, what is the preferred glassing schedule
for a stringerless SUP? I assume the
flat water boards should rigid…
Also, I have 50" wide 6oz. cloth. Should I bring the laps further into the deck to add rigidity?
Thanks in advance,
~Brian

Hey Brian,
Do you have square rails, or more surf rails. If square rails the strength comes from the design. Do you want it to last for ever, or do you want it light.
The basic 2x6 deck ,and a 1 x 6 bottom will be fine, if you want it light, but you can't bang it around a lot. You could add 4 oz patches to where you feet will stand mid board.
I know guys do 1 lb eps, and glass them with 4 oz...but they are disposible after a race or 2.
The overall thickness of the board makes it pretty strong, so your main concerns are heal dents and bumps etc.
I've got a 12'6" thats 2x6 and 1x6 out of 1.5 eps stringerless. I do ding repair on it. but it's light enough so I don't have to struggle too much.
Square rails are going to give you fits glassing. There is a lot of surface area to drip and sag. As long as your laps cover around the bottom or top your good. As for overlapping, it might be good on the deck. You can always benefit from some deck strength. But on the bottom...you are wasting glass and adding extra weight. Weight is you enemy on these things.
10’6 ? not long enough.
figgure out what corners
you are gonna cut
and glue em onto
the nose fo mo length.
glass it strong
make it heavy
for the carry to the beach workout
how much can you qverhead press?
flat water is about glide.
light weight is about
momentum sacrifice.
if you wanna workout
tie a 9’6 to the bank of
a lake an PLH.
…ambrose…
plh? paddle like hell
…till its…
