An 8’er in shoulder high waves is so limited in maneuverability that their riders might as well be on a full-size longboard. So the trend seems to be spreading, clogging the shortboard spots just like longboards do at the points. I just don’t get it. There are so many great alternatives in board design these days: why settle for something that does a little of everything, but does nothing well?
P.S. Really mediocre. At least that’s my take on those longshortboards. I just don’t understand the function behind that choice. If anyone rides one and wants to share a differing opinion, I’d be interested to hear it. But somehow I expect it’s more likely that somebody will post about donkeys riding oversized mats…
My opinion? Who cares what they’re riding… They chose it, they’re probably happy with it. This is why we (atleast most of us) have our happy secret spots that aren’t crowded.
most logboreders of today cant ride anything else at that cant really ride a log right sad but true I think WE should make some breaks like malizoo and churches log free-shortboards only spots Log Harrbored Bruce Joke bilk Sewert The Geek Yacker Vomitlez equals KOOOKS !
…You’re a nut case for sure.Herb
Everyone enjoys what they do in a different way. Some people do technical rock climbing, while others hike in and camp and look at the scenery. Should the campers turn their noses up at the rock climbers because they use different equipment and see things from another perspective? You guys who want to own surf spots because you have a certain size board should relax and enjoy yourselves more. If you were sitting in a wheelchair, you’d be ecstatic if you could just stand up and walk to the water. Life is short. Count your blessings. Doug

8 foot midlength or full-on LB and I’ll STILL surf better than you, William. Wanna trade boards? – I’ll prove it to you. kook. !!!
I’m a shortboarder first. I’ve got a few. I love riding shortboards… I also ride a 8 foot Yater “Baby Spoon”. I don’t like longboards because they are to long for me… Yet I love the glide they create… something you’ll never feel on a shortboard. So, I got an 8 foot board for small clean days… and love it! A few of my short board pals who have tried it love it also. It has the amazing glide, yet I can manuever it easily. My theory is… learn all water craft! Be well rounded. Have a variety in your quiver. Learn when to ride what board. So… I understand… why would someone ride a 8 footer on a chest high day. Well I could only surmize… if the waves are coming in mushy (not top to bottom) then it might call for a larger board.
yeah some of my friends are stupid but they are my frends so i love em anyway
I ride two 50/50 raliers one 9’6" one 9’1" and love the glide. When it gets bigger I grab my short board. It’s 8’er. A thruster with super hard rails. It feels like a short board after riding my other boards.I went through the short board era and surfed them, but saw the light. Can’t see the point of riding a short board when my 8’er is easier to paddle, catches waves easier and leaves most short boards in its wake.Thats my humble opinion.
Well put Doug.T
short is what you make it, i ride a 7’8" and for me thats short enough and my 8’5" is long enough------to revive a quote—'the best surfer is the one having the most fun"
