Here goes, I’ve had my first foam blank sitting on the stands in the garage since October and done nowt with it (previously built 4 hollow wooden boards). What I’m after is maybe some suggestions for shapes in the form of an akushaper pdf. I’m about as bad as it gets ability wise so need something forgiving, and about as unfit as a 42 year old can be so need something easy to paddle. I’m in the UK and usually hang out at North Devon (Saunton, Woolly or Puts usually) so need something that would be consistant with these waves. Any help here to get me off my fat ass would be good.
Some more info about that blank? Some 7’ blanks are good for “big guys” boards, some for big fishes, some for semi-guns, some for minimals…
Hey Balsa chhers for reply,
good point, I originally bought the blank to shape something along the lines of a 6’10" or 7’ fatboy type board. Its a US BLANKS from seabase uk, it has printed on it “7 IEA LEO” and "SEA 3/16 36. If that means anything to anyone??? The blank is too narrow in the nose for a minimal. Its rocker was described as natural. I hadn’t really considered a big fish but now you mention it…
Well, I checked the US Blanks catalog and it seems it is the 7’1" EA (Eric Arakawa).
This is what Eric Arakawa says about this blank:
“This is the shorter version of the 7’6” EA.”
OK, so, what about the 7’6" EA?
"This is primarily designed for making fun boards. It comes with a moderate but continuous even rocker and foil to make “positioning”
the blank for the shape process easy."
Oh, BTW, “LEO” might be the guy who poured the blank, “SEA” should mean “SEABASE”, 3/16 might be stringer thickness?
As for “36”? Maybe the week it was poured? Some manufacturers use this kind of marking.
Cheers balsa
I’m sure that makes perfect sense to everyone on Swaylocks except me (Duh, kook)
Ach well, think I’ll take a piccy of the blank and gets some lines against it on aku see what looks right.
Peace
.
Good one on the interpretations, 3/16 is deffinately the stringer thickness. As for the rest of it; my moneys on you being right!
I’m thinking along the lines of the attached “big biscuit” for next round here. The thickness, bottom, outline, dimensions etc might be different though by the time etc
How wide does a minimal nose need to be??. I just rough cut this from a 7’ minimal blank ( its a 6’11’’ ). The nose is 16 3/4. I reckon you could bring all dims in 1/2’’ and it would still bo ok. Otherwise, what about a “nugget” style board?
