Just saw this movie for the 1st time, fun east coast roots.
My question:
Joey Hamasaki wins the womens event riding a 8’4" Weber which was 24" wide. It was '67, so to early for the Ski (a real dog in my humble opinion).
What was it? A one-off team rider custom?

Yeah, as she was a not especially large lady, it was prolly a short team rider variant of a Weber that’d be more usually found in 9’6" or larger. Might have been a Performer or a Professional, the latter were usually team boards. Along the same lines, I have seen 7’6" Fryes of about the same era, though I think the chick (Zeenie ) on our shop team rode something like a 9’0" Weber. Shame this didn’t come up a while ago, as she (Zeenie, not Joyce) was in town for a bit.
The Stratos ( which were in that size range but a little later than '67) tended to look kinda odd, have heavy vee bottoms and the like, plus some ‘kinda funky, man’ glassing with swirled colors or odd graphics. They were kinda the X-series for Weber, heavily Nat Young/McTavish/Greenough influenced.

always happy to contribute something. If I recall right, Joey Hamasaki was a little powerhouse of a chick, able to crank a board around quite well. Though wasn’t she part of a fairly successful tandem team too?
Yeah, we did the OT yesterday, with rolliges in attendance plus another Swaylockian or two. Good time was had by all, not least me, though on account of that and a fair amount of Willie’s finest I’m mebbe a skosh vague this evening.
During the prelims at the shop, we even came up with a way to maybe fit a new Fins Unlimited box into the old-school WAVE-set box, redoing it some as an insert like the WAVE Vari-set arrangement. I may have to experiment some…
Joey ripped and did do some tandem surf too. She seems to have vanished. Anyone know what became of her?
According to Corey Weber, it was a 25" wide Performer. He says the question comes up frequently.
