summer

Happy birthday Ben hope you get some waves.

Took the twinzer fish and the glass belly board down.

Lost the backside leader on xmas day so a bit slidey going backside. But lots of fun.
Got some great little low tide barrels on the lid.

Started to lay up a panel to waiting for the shops to open again to get some more epoxy.

..... yeehaaa !

I can't wait to see the panel , mate !  Are you by any chance  going to tint , or resin swirl , or fabric inlay it , Tom ?

 meanwhile ...

Summer can also be all about the GLIDE , at times ....

thegliiiide.jpg

That definitly looks fun, love the way my longboard speeds up on the nose. Feels kinda like flying up there.

The pannel was ment to be clear with some veneer inlay but all the layers of cloth and epoxy are not very clear (18 layers of 6oz) so the rest of it will be getting some green tint.

cool !

any particular reason why you went with epoxy , mate ?

with TINY [in big letters!] amounts of green , it could 'almost' look volany [?word?]

please feel free to show us eh Tom ?

do you have template[s] worked out yet , will they be a thruster set ?  twinny?  bonzers ?  or ...a single fin sized   panel ?

  cheers

  ben the finatical

Epoxy doesnt smell and piss off my family or my neighbours, at times I would prefer to be using uv poly but it can be tricky finding time to use resin let alone when everyone is out.

The dark patches are the veneer aproxx 5x5 twins for the fish should be able to get some sidebites and a couple of singe tabbers from the rest. Green tint it will be

groooovy , maaaan !

thanks for that photo , Thomas FinPanelusMaximus ! [ And ....welcome to itchy scratchy world , by the way  haha !]

what kind of veneer is that , mate ?

will they be fcs / 'lokbox' tabbed ,

or

  glassons [the twinnys ] ?

if doing 'one-tabbers' also .... will you be going the 'twinzer' option , too, mate ?

I can't wait to see the FINished board , and fin setup[s] !

  cheers , Tom !

  ben

...since I'm on the theme of fins  [ and , what to do with injury , and the current strong onshore wind conditions ] ...

here's what I did , late last night , just so I can get a bit organised and have an idea what I have to do , still  [like you , I hope my neighbours disappear for a while , so I can dedicate time to cutting out and foiling some of these MANY fins ....]

finsjan20137.jpg

finsjan20135.jpg

finsjan201317.jpg

[ and , these are mostly the offcuts]

finsjan20132.jpg

....perhaps I can send you some of my "one-tabbers" , if you like ?

I have plenty more than I will ever need / use . Also, the plugs on my main summer backup board [ the Walden 'CD4']  are really a bit far forward , plus far apart , for twinzer , 'superchargers' , or even bonzer setups , unfortunately .  [Unlike with the 'bushfire fish' , or the [late ...R.I.P.]  'prawn' ,  I don't want to add any MORE plugs to it , though]

....stay tuned , stay tubed !

 ;)

cheers !

Hi mate !

I'm sure you have probably already figured it out ,

 but

here is how I get a 'few' templates per panel  [this is only an 8" x 10" bit of cardboard that they are displayed on , just to give you an idea ... your panel is probably LARGER than that , yes ?!]

today [saturday 5th january 2013] , there were so many different ages and surfcraft out there ...

It was interesting to photograph and watch , I thought !

[ .....? " but , tuesday's just the SAAAME " ?   .....Well, I'll have to wait and see , eh ?! ...

...personally , I hope not , as I don't want to risk getting Marty's very nice Canon EOS wet  !

He has kindly lent me it for a little while , and now the winds are back in the offshore mode again [YAYYYY !!] .... and my foot is still [?!] not surfable , I have been editing HUNDREDS  of large file size photos , for freaking   DAAAAYS !!

So, here are a few , from just before the downpour this morning ...

thank goodness for plastic bags , gazebos [to shelter from the [nearly]  hail] , and ....a lift home from Marty , too, eh ?!

His Canon EOS has a 75-300mm zoom , and I also took down my Canon Ixus , for the cloudscapes , as the sky looked very DRAMATIC at 5am .... I was very glad that I DID !

I DO hope to get some water shots .

Hopefully , at some stage in the next few weeks / month or so . But , at the moment , I'm not really too keen on getting a sea ulcer or infection.

..... I'll wait till it is no longer an open wound , before venturing back out for hours on end !

 cheers !

tuesday , 15th january ,

a three hour 'pulse' in the swell, possibly as a result of a dissipated south-moving 'cyclone' heading out to sea....

whatever ,

Good ol' 'Noddy ' got a few , in amongst the frothing teenagers  [school holidays] !

It is always refreshing / encouraging to see that a 43 year old local can bag a few.

This is his 5'10" x 20 1/2" x 2 1/2" quad fin eps / epoxy , with carbon fibre rails [fcs plugged]  that he is  riding , in these shots . He made this over a YEAR ago,  now . It's still in GREAT condition !!

( Greg [noddy'] is a shaper , like his brother , Dave Macaulay.)

not usually being on the beach this time of day , I now remember clearly WHY !!

A LOT of this sort of stuff must go on here in summer  [as far as I  know , though , this is not a gay beach ...I guess some times the tourists just don't realise that , eh , and think they are back at their hom[i]es , perhaps ?!]

THIS guy , though ....hmmmmm ....

jan15th2012099.jpg

even the numerous brazilian girls nearby wondered if perhaps he had taken it a BIT far [and , that's saying something , for them , eh ?  haha :) ]

who'da thunk going to the beach could be such a circus , eh ?!  :)

[fortunately , while all this 'on the beach'  sideshow was going on ...SURFERS were happily oblivious , just going about their business ...]

You’ve  got some great photos there Ben !

What camera do you recommend for surf photography ???

cheers brett !

if I owned this one , I'd definately recommend the canon EOS ...

  and now ...

a question for YOU, if you don't mind , please mate ?

  today I used rowan's 'go pro2'

and bugger me if we didn't end up with 10 shots of everything ...

as we didn't have the instruction book with us , and he has recently bought this ...

HOW  do we just shoot THREE frames , without delay , or maybe ten shots ? of a person on a wave ...

is it 10 shots per second , or one shot every FEW seconds , with the go pro 2 ?

we have waaaay too many shots to delete , from an hour in the water ...

that said , there IS  a NOTICEABLE improvement in the image quality , with the 'go pro2' , compared to the first one , thankfully !

  cheers

  ben

....only another week to go [in fact , three days ?] officially .....

but it ain't over till she .....   [can't see her in the wings yet , thankfully ! ]

we always get hot days in march too, anyway !

heres a few from this morning ...nice to have the "go pro" operable again .... yewww !  stoked !
