sun cure

im going to mix my own…ive got enough powder for 5gallons already broke it up in to 5 equal parts with a scale…can i use old acetone cans to store it in …? and can I use styrene to pre disolve the powder

no worries on the acetone cans…as long as they were never contaminated. Actually the premixed Suncure I’m using isn’t all that sensitive but I did do a prelim test on the batch with a dipstick then into the California sun…13 seconds to goey driplet.

I don’t get why you would styrene your powder. Just pour it in and mix it thouroughly.

Addicted to styrene? I had a glasser from Brazil that had the same problem. Nasty.

no not addicted to itonly use it in my sanding agent …ive heard that the suncure powder can cause problems if not mixed well ,soft spots gooy spots…I thought the styrene would turn it to a liquid and help it mix a little better like water and sugar im talking only about an ounce of styrene…guess sturing it and a over night soak will help it blend better

I’ve found it mixes in really well.

Heres a tip that will save you some frustration -

Wipe the thread and inside of the screw cap clean every time you use some, especially if you have it in metal actone containers.

The resin gets in the thread, then cures, and it’s an absolute bitch to get the lid off again.

I’ve had to destroy a tin get get the lid off before.

Howzit nat, if you have 5 gallons of resin in a 5 gallon tub then pour the sun cure into it and roll it around the yard for about 10 minutes, that should mix it in, then put it in the 1 gal acetone cans. Aloha,Kokua

I see the different terms and I stand back…UV cure ,Sun Cure , UV Resin…What exactly are you using? Brand Name? Where did you buy it? Is it epoxy?

I buy UV cure catylist from Mitch’s in Solona Beach, Ca. It is for poly resin. Dura Technologies 39DUV400. For about $20 I get enough to do 5 gallons. I split the powder(catylist) into five equal parts and store it in small plastic tubes. Sort of like what a large drill bit would be shipped in. I mix one gallon at a time. Pour the powder in. Put ther cap back on and shake rattle and roll. I shake for about 10 minutes. Rest and then shake some more. Mark the container UV CURE and date it. Let it sit over night before you use it. Normally I use the mixed resin in less than six months. Keep it away form light. Great stuff!
