Sun Damage???

I was just wondering how much sun is too much sun. I know that any sun at all is bad for the foam and resin, but at what point does it become a problem? Basically the scenario is that it takes me about 25 minutes to drive to the beach, and I was wondering if I really should worry about sun protection for that amount of time. My board has a dark blue resin tint on the bottom, so I noticed that it heats up quite a bit from the sun, and I was also curious about how much of an issue that is. I have only made the drive once without covering it. After that, I sewed a board bag for it out of thick chorderoy, but I noticed that this too can get pretty hot from the sun. I am probably just going to buy one of the bags with a thin layer of insulation, and the reflective material, but I was wondering if I could get around spending the money for it (I sold my last one with my old board). Thanks for any insight.

Move closer to the beach. Direct exposure to the sun is not good for anything except plants. And even then in a limited basis. But 25 minutes is not too big a deal especially if your board is covered.

Alex…anything light colored over the surface. white board bag, sheet…whatever it takes. let 'em all laugh… (minimize the sun exposure) at least your board won’t torque out from the summer sun! P.S. Enjoy your graduation! Drive safe, and don’t forget to wear your SUNSCREEN! Skin cancer is just another of the many “thrills” of life you may encounter on your path as a surfer (most hopefully NOT!).
