OK back on subject here as we have two posts running concuenrtly on sways withopposing positions.
The “beatdown” thread seems to focus on what was portrayed and dumping blame on someone.
This one is about the truth of what really happened and what lessons are to be learned or whether it is just another incident that goes on globally every day in our culture and we all find our own way of putting it into perspective.
Some think Sawaysit is not the forum for such subject. Surfing is a culture and surfboards are just one aspect of our culture and are sometimes used as weapons for violence. Now nose dimensions and rocker play a vital role in the way a violater can be more effective in administering pain effieciently.
Sunny prefers the fist approach which probably says a lot about his board design and the respect he has not to damage his equipment on such trivial pursuits as “coaching” a kid in the art of surfing etiquette…now that is what so relative to a design forum otherwise we would be all riding sof boards so as to avoid even accidental violence.

Howzit billy,I think we read different stories and I wasn't able to watch the video. The story I read said the the guy was slapping Sunnys kid around and that was when Sunny went Balistic. If you did see the video you would see Sunny’s kid just standing there watching Flores and the other guy fight. Whatever had happened between his son and the other guy was done and was being dealt with by Flores. But big bad Sunny felt the need to step in, put the guy in a choke hold and hold him underwater until he went limp. That’s why the whole “protecting my kid” thing is bullshit. His kid was in no danger at that point. When I was a kid if my dad had felt the need to fight all the people I fought with after the fact he would still be in jail today. There is a big difference between being protective and being vindictive. And Sunny should know part of raising a boy is letting him learn to be a man and stand on his own two feet…especially in the world of surfing where conflict is always going to be a part of life. If he can’t do that then he better start buying some soap on a rope because his bound for prison. More than likely Sunny’s kid probably mouthed off to the wrong guy and he was lucky daddy and friends stepped in. And again, that’s saying nothing about the cameraman he pounded for taking his picture…maybe his kid was in danger of getting his photo taken so Sunny had to save him again.

I really like to get all the sides to a story before commenting but in this case all I got was that story from the newspaper and add 40 years of living with Hawaiians to that and I hope you can see my side of the story. What’s funny in this Outsider story is that the guy Sunny choked out was pressured by other Australians NOT to press charges because of the fear of possible repercussions on the touring Australian pros when they go to Hawaii. Who says violent localism doesn’t work?
