Sunset Point: What defines a rocket?

Greg, hey, courious about your rocket designs. Not asking for trade secrets, but what defines a rocket? I am really loving your rocket long boards pictures. Obviously, the narrow outline and narrow nose. What can you tell us? How does the design relate to Clydes rocket fish? Many thanks.

I have only seen one Beatty rocket fish and it had sort of a hull type bottom.

My Rockets have longboard type low entry with nose flip the front 14"

Narrow noses and wide points further back than my longboards lighten up the front.

Bottom contours are tri plane in the front to the wide point with the side planes reducing depth creating vee in the center for a 4 plane bottom from wide point to 1/3 from tail .Side planes gone and just vee in front of the fins and flat in the back.

These slight multiple planes keep the board free ,planing high and lively for a bigger board.

Most of the time i have a tucked edge from nose to tail.

Your rockets look like 50 mph just in the picture.

Thanks for all the details. If all that works on a long(ish) board, does it translate to a short board?

Many have posted here, including you I think, that flat bottoms are the fastest. I don’t want to start another epic debate about bottoms, but your 5 fin fish are flat bottomed, right?

Anyway, thanks.

My fishes usually have this bottom at .05 " in depth

Read the story about Darren Handley and Mick on the front page.

What it ends up saying is that the magic board has less concave and the ones with more concave are harder to ride and less forgiving , while in the begining praising concaves.
