Sup gun 8’6. 1.25#eps 300kpa xps 20mm stringer, ud omega stringer bottom.
Bevel rails
Shape rails, i keep flat deck. For that i mark and cut 3 main bevels then bevel the bevel again and again and final sandscreen.
Nice! Bet guys at Peahi(Jaws) would love to take that thing out. I once took a 8’6 Clark Windsurf blank and did something very similar. Thank you for the nice pics too. Good pictures make it easy to see where you’re going.
Hi Lemat,
Can you perhaps elaborate on the omega bottom stringer? Why are there still (looks like 3-4mm) gaps on the bottom?
I always had the idea it was laminated cloth like a U-profile with the opening towards the bottom and then filled with foam.
Yes you are right i still call this omega because it was what i did but now it’s more a rectangular tube where both wider side are fibers and others fiber mastic.
Here sides are filled with reinforced epoxy mastic and blank sealed
A little more work on this board
Thruster future fins + reinforcement plugs for fcs1 back quad.
1 layer of 6oz warp glass on top and rails with a 8oz ud 4 inch glass center.
1 layer 5oz biax + 1 layer 6oz warp on botttom with light weight cheater coat.
Come back to this build, i glue 2mm cork under vaccum with epoxy slurry. Sand flush at rails, put leash plugss and fcs handle seal cork with epoxy slurry
Wow seems like would be difficult to balance on a board that size as an SUP, I’m amazed at what these SUP guys are riding these days. I like the cork deck. Trevor (I forget the swaylocks name!) used to do something similar on his boards and they were very nice, no wax needed. Looks better than the standard EVA deck pad in my opinion.
Yes I was wondering if you put anything over the cork. Huck— I used to put a “texture” coat on new Sailboards for a local shop on Maui. I bought “Ground Acrylic at “Fiberglass Hawaii”. Taped off the deck rails and the deck at the nose. Then mix it with a quart or so of Epoxy resin and spray the deck with a cup gun. It could also be rolled on as long as The tape was pushed down hard. Sometimes it would be a little too abrasive, in which case you would lightly sand with 220 and possibly respray without the Acrylic. Just Epoxy. Worked great. Seems like it would do well on an SUP.
Yes cork is cover with main lam. I use a sandwich build with cork micro fill instead of pvc foam.
I do some cork as pad, some find it good others find it not grip enough. I would try cork fill with elastic resin then rout corrugation.
A bit more work on this board:
Lam deck with 6oz biax + 4oz warp deck patch.
Finish coat top and bottom. Final sand, glue grip and it’s finish
Looks Great!
Very nice Lemat.
