what happens, or how can one tell if there is too much, or too little surfacing agent in the hot coat mix?
what happens, or how can one tell if there is too much, or too little > surfacing agent in the hot coat mix? too little and it’ll be a gummy mess when you sand. too much and it’ll turn milky white when it hardens.
For too little the surface is gummy. For too much the surface is a milky white. Just as important as mixing in the correct quanity of surfacing agent is. Not over brushing, fully mixing and enough time to get the wax is rise will attribute to gummy areas. I have experience with the gummy surface area with past projects. The Adobe Acrobat Dcoument below has good instructions http://www.fiberglasssupply.com/pdf/polyester/SurfAgent.pdf>>> what happens, or how can one tell if there is too much, or too little > surfacing agent in the hot coat mix? http://www.viser.net/~anthwind/
i am glassing a 7’6" hybrid shape, what’s a good amount of s/a to add to say a 1/2 gal. of resin and mekp?
i am glassing a 7’6" hybrid shape, what’s a good amount of s/a to add > to say a 1/2 gal. of resin and mekp? I usually use about 10 to 12 ml per quart. But don’t take my word for it, go to: http://www.fiberglasssupply.com/Product_Catalog/product_catalog.html click on resins and chemicals and scroll down to surface agents then click on that and you’ll find more specific info on ratios. If you’re still not sure, give them a call. make sure you add it before the mekp and thoroughly mix it first.
