Surfblanks new foam blanks

Hey Guys

Anyone used Surfblanks new foam blanks?

They have a new superstrong formular and a new pink density foam. 8% lighter than the yellow.

Cheers

I’m a Surfblanks user for over 2 years, I like the foam and have used their greens and some yellows. I was told by the crew there’s a new chemical which makes the blanks strong and has enabled them to make a really light pink formula. I have shaped 3, two were perfect and one was a little soft on the deck but they all glassed out great. Really came out light. 2 are my boards and I’m really digging them might be too light for some very close to super light EPS/Epoxy.

Howzit mds, I think that one of the best things to happen to the surfboard building business was Clark Foam shutting down since the foam being blown now is better and getting better every day, and we thought it was the end of the world,ha,ha. Aloha,Kokua

Mick i have a new "red" formula blank. I should have got a blue, as the colour ratings have moved down one, ie, the old blue is now equal to red. But i dont mind as its not heavy, and it should be bomb proof. Havent hit it with the planer yet, but i'll let you know when i do.

I used Surfblanks for a few boards last year.  I liked it alot better than Clark.  Very uniform foam.  Nice and hard.

Have been using surfblanks for ages besides having a great product, the company is a pleasure to deal with. Generally use the red for most boards but have also used the black for bullet proof old style logs. Did a custom not long ago using “Eskimo Foam” from shapers, but it just didn’t have the “crispness” of the surfblanks foam. Getting a fresh batch of blanks delivered as soon as the highway opens back up … fu#@ken floods!

Yes i agree

Surfblanks is great foam. Been using it myself for quite a few years now.

But what about the new superstrong and the pink??

Cheers

Leigh Robinson got a 1.9 kg (4.275 lbs) 6’0’’ shortboard out of a Surfblanks Australia Pink.

1 x 4 oz S each side - Kinetix epoxy - Futures boxes.

Leigh is building the next with 2 x 4 oz deck since there is room (weight) to move.

…hello Midget,

what s the equivalent of those Pink ones in the Surfblanks Brazil?

I bet that this density in those Flexcells is calling for a blast in performance.

Is possible to have a good lam with polyester resin and e glass?

thanks

Midget, if I had stuck with your blanks, then, when rockers were more important than foam, my life would be different, I have no doubt on that. You were very difficult to deal with and I was a young smartarse. The 1st time I went to Hawaii I used your blanks for me and Glen,in the Australian amatuer team, he won the juniours, I got 3rd in the open, the killer was when I surfed Pipe for the 1st time,it was like I was supposed to , perfect board, maybe the 20th or 100th I'd ever shaped. I used Dion in 81 when invited to Pipe and nearly killed myself, whilst having a good go. You knew me from when I was really young and you were my hero, I have survived this far and I also know the true history and have had dealings with the other bloke, your bubbles are light weight compared, John.

Dear Reverb

Yes…

Go UV polyester!!!

Fernando is on it.

Dear Ambrose

What would a long time traveller say here?

You always had trouble with times changing old Mate didn't you, how the fuck could Ambrose answer that? I reckon he might now, care factor 0, you didn't.

ok back on track[img_assist|nid=1056508|title=surfblanks|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=480|height=640]

Midget, i have a "new" red blank for an egg im building, what do you recommend for glassing ? I was thinking 6 bottom 6+4 deck? UV poly resin. Dont want it light, but don't want it too heavy.

Dear Reverb

Fernando says hello - Pinks are named Premium  in Brazil.

Fernando does have UV resin.

I use UV with .25% MEKP - find the strength amazing after 2 years on a 9’6’’ longboard.

JPS warp (e glass) replaced S cloth for us in Australia - doesn’t have the comression strength but the extra strands longways cut the snaps down.

That new Red blank is very fine celled - so you could even go 2 x 6oz on the deck - get the benefit of more cloth with not much resin take up.

Thanks midget! I had a fish i made from your old red foam and 6x66. After 2 years plus the deepest compression on the deck was 1/8. Awesome stuff.

Howzit reverb, If you can get warp glass use it instead and it should be the same price as E glass. Warp glasshas more strands running in the long direction so it is stronger. I used only warp for the last 12 years before retiring and I loved it.  Aloha,Kokua
