Has anyone here tried the new foam ? Sounds like a big step up , I have 7 blanks coming this week not sure if they will be the new formula though.
Really keen to hear reports as to how it shapes and performance changes to finished boards.
SUPERSTRONG SUPERWHITE
June 1st, 2010
Surfblanks Superwhite foam has been upgraded to the new Superstrong Formula. Blanks made with this formula carry the stencilled Superstrong Formula label on the right side rail.
Six months of formula work have resulted in a foam with compression strength that may be twice that of any other foam available anywhere in the world.
As huge a claim as this appears, once trialled it is very clear that this foam has no equal.
Appearance - Very fine celled, matt white foam.
Strength - Extremely resistent to thumb test at relative density (other makes).
Benefits -
1 - Other than those that are obvious (above) this new foam has allowed the production of lighter blanks for normal use. So where as the Blue Superwhite was the shortboard standard, the Green Superstrong becomes the standard.
2 - Blue Superstrong becomes the standard for what was the Red Superwhite fish blanks. Red Superstrong would still be recommended for deep cuts into the Fat Fish blanks.
3 - Blue Superstrong now becomes the longboard standard, replacing Red Superwhite.
4 - New Pink Superstrong is 8% lighter than Yellow Superstrong. Pink? Yes Surfblanks has been able to make a lighter blank
Superstrong Superwhite is not available in So Cal other than by import from Australia, Durban or Recife - so it’s too hard!
If I understand where you are coming from - you may be looking for older style longboard foam?
Andrew at SBUSA has 9 densities available - the Orange,Purple,Gold and Silver densities are fairly bullet proof - very fine cell - white with a very low yellow rate.
If you were a fan of Harold’s foam these densities are for you.
Thank you for your response. I was very much a fan of Walker foam. I considered it superior to Clark foam. I'm looking for small cell structure, with high crush resistance, with a relative light weight. I've heard good things about your product, and the new Superstrong Superlight sounds great! Wish I had access to it. I've got a SBUSA blank on the way, expected this week, for a client board in Florida. Thanks again.
Thanks for the info. I will check with Derek when I get a chance. This new foam being discussed sounds interesting. If some arrives in Hawaii can you let me know… my email address is… bbarnfield@hawaii.rr.com
