The deck on mine had big indents from the first surf.
I think it was mostly a by product of having it machine shaped, i dont know how much was taken off the deck.
I creased it last week on the deck side. not even a stress fracture on the bottom, but the stringer on the deck imploded and its cracked from rail to rail.
my glass schedule was a bit weird tho as i used 4oz and 2oz innegra on the deck and 2 x 4oz on the bottom. I shoudl have added more glass to the deck.
I think all my problems are user error from me when glassing (it was only my 2nd attempt). and the fact that i dont have much luck keeping boards in one peice. this board spent more getting repairs than it did in the water.
the resin was kinetix epoxy. the blank was a surfblanks yellow and was cut on an aps3000. Glassed at the start of the year. surfed for a dozen times before the fins got busted at burleigh and sat waiting for repairs for a few months cause i was injured. surfed for another 10 times before it bent too much taking the drop at snapper.
I wouldnt take my results as usual for this combo and i think all my problems where caused by my lack of knowledge and skills.
For me personally I liked how light the board was but I didnt feel any performance improvement from that. I have heavier boards that feel just as good. I am quite heavy footed and the decks of my boards are always heavily indented from my feet.
I think my main problem was the innegra cloth and the way I glassed it. The bottom had 2 x 4oz and was/is really strong. If I did the deck the same it would have been fine and about the same weight.
I would definately try another of the same blank and get it glassed by someone who knows what they are doing before making any conclusions about it.
Positive I’m not trying to stir. I was just curious as to how long the yellow Surfblanks last compared to a standard weight PU blank (if there is such a thing) if you know what I mean.
