I am an artist but I've never tried my hand at art that will be glassed in. I have purchased a roll of artist's rice paper and I have been advised to use only water based inks or paints. My questions pertain to what types of inks fit this description. If an ink is waterproof, does that mean that it is not water based? What brand names are recomended? Thanks: Trevor
Trevor, any ink that is waterproof or water-based will work. Sometimes ink will bleed because of the papers texture.Acrylic paints also work well, they are thicker. Liquitex or similar paints. Dick Blick sells anything you need. I have hand painted on rice paper with good results.Sometimes I have custom painted laminates for board builders. Don’t apply too thick and paint on the smooth side. Get creative. Barry
I like the sound of what you're attempting. But in my opinion there is more room for artistic expression in painting on the board, rather than painting a paper that will be glassed on. Explore the possibilities!
Not TRUE! I know you do a lot of art Barry so Iam not trying to shut you down, but I have a TON of inks that are “waterproof” that will run like hell under poly resins. Some I use on Epoxies some I use only on canvas.
Acryclics, Tempras, water based screen inks, Liquitex all work fairly well A lot of guys use white latex house paints as binders for tempras and acrylics with great results…
Huck, I have always admired that Banana board.
Experiment on a small scrap of foam and glass see if the results bleed colors run or do some weird thing to the glass.
For your first I would stick to what others have said here. Acrylics are safe usually very light fast and stable to work with.
