Hey sl8r welcome to the forum, bad luck at J-bay, your board looked really good and I would have liked to have seen you advance but I was happy for Sean Holmes with the win.
Machines, solid investment, surely Al would let you use his 5 axis beast now that you want to be a budding shaper?
There used to be this Silly guy on the forum, if he were here he’d say buy a container of blanks and learn to use a planer. $40k + thats over 1000 boards machined at a cutting house…
If I had a spare $50k I’d use it as a deposit for a 120sq meter factory, start building a business and paying off an asset for retirement.
The are some CNC blueprints floating around the internet. A friend and myself build one, it’s only got 3 axes (foward/back, left/right, up/down) but it has worked pretty damn well. They aren’t “cheap” and you need to have some mechanical and electrical know-how, but it won’t cost $40k+. Just take a look around the internet for some CNC blueprints and I’m sure it will bring up something. You are also going to need a dedicated computer and machining software to run any kind of model.
