I have a couple of old logs that I love and I am always paranoid to leave on the back of my pickup unattended. They both have no plug, finbox (glassed on fin) so all the commercial locks I have seen will not work. I have thought about making some custom cables to loop nose and tail…but looking for something better. Ideas?
Looks like it would do the trick…kind of like a kryptonite lock for boards. Pricey…I agree, and looks a little painful to install, but I think worth it.
Like the price as well. I still think you would need another cable…I would wrap the python just in front of the fin thread thru another cable with 2 loop ends, securing the loose end to the trucks tie down bracket…that would work!
Goomer, I’ve been looking at solutions to the same problem. Came up with some ideas, more for a shortboard (with removable fins), just havn’t worked out the details yet.
I was thinking about using those thinner locking cables - ya know, the ones you could break with a swift kick. Use one on each end of the board. Lock it up, and make sure it gets real tight well before the center/wide point. Then use a third to hold those two together, so they can’t be slipped off the end. Should look something like this attachment (the cables should be tight of course). Not indestructible by any means, but should be enough to lock up one of your boards while your out for a surf…
Goomer, I’ve been using a python lock to secure my boards on the back of my pickup for the last year and no one has managed to rob a board, I’m pleased with the result.
Yes, thats basically the idea I had, besides my old logs I have modern boards I’d like to keep safe. I’d like to come up with a loop system like yours that would work for all my boards…7’3" to 10’3".
I think I will pick up the Python lock/cable regardless.
