Surfboard Logo Library

This should be interesting to the surfing nostalgists and graphic designers out there.

Lots of inspiration and more than a few memories located here:

I think your maths is out a bit there , dougy boy …

You have dyslexia. I said thirty ;D

Look what I found!

1971 …was that around the year you were born , dougy ?

Yeah. He stole it the year I was born. Thirty years before I was going to use it.

Him and his damned time machine… Also stole my cutback and tube-riding skills.

That’s a nice website. Some inspiring logos in there.

Oh another fav!

I always figured you were goofy .

You and your evil spies!

PS. Apologies for hijacking the thread… Friday afternoon sillyness here.

great stuff Paz !

cheers for posting that !

ah , here we go ! There are some shapers from here listed …

Bill Barnfield …

Greg Loehr…

Jim Phillips

That is a very interesting resource , Pascal …I guess that makes me either a nostalgia freak or a graphic designer being interested in this sort of stuff eh ?

Funny, no “Surftech’s”…

…it will be interesting to look up the local ones here , PAZ …

hot brewz , santosha , cordingley , hawk bros. , len dibben , colin earle

and , on the east coast here in Oz…

dick van straalen , bob mctavish , sky, greenough , hayden , scott dillen , midget farrelly , nat young , wayne lynch , ted spencer …

I also saw the early ‘energy’ [simon anderson ] logo there . I had that one on a single of his I had in 1979 …I wish I still had THAT board !!

“kewarra surfboards” [erle pedersen ] and “Michael Peterson” [/ underground?] Surfboards " … they would be interesting to see too , I reckon !

I don’t think it’s an exhaustive listing, because I only saw one logo of a board that I’ve previously had (Hot Stuff). Maybe he’d accept submissions of those more obscure logos.

I wish I’d photographed all the boards I’ve had in the past.

Those are a few we snapped at the fry. If I had been thinking we would have cataloged the every logo at the event.

I had an idea years ago to do a coffee table book of logos. Then SJ(?) had an issue that essentially did what I thought. What would be cool is a little info on how each logo came about, who drew it (and did they go on to graphic design fame and fortune - some did), what they were on at the time, as well as variations over time. A for-instance is…Adrian Olson (George Olson’s son) told me the outline for their (Jim Phillips designed?) decal came from the portion of a Kleenex box that the consumer would pop out and throw away.

"Balsa’ s …

show us YOUR “logos” , please ??

cheers ,

ben
