Surfboard measures question

Somebody can advise me about which measures my surfboard should have according to this information:

My Height: 5’4"

My Weight: 150 to 160 pounds

I want a board to run waves from knee hight to 1 feet overhead, that be easy to paddle out, Iam 32 years old and I am returning to surf again after some years of inactivity. I make all types of moves not like a pro but I am not a begginer.

Thank you,

Surf or Die

maybe 6’0" by 18 1/4" by about 2 1/8", squash tail, however, its all down to what you want and what you like. Trying boards out is the best way. There’s been a few times that my friends have bought new boards, let me ride them, and i immediately had to go by myself a new board. I found aspects of their new boards that i really liked and felt i needed. So, riding boards is the best way to figure out what you want.

After “some years of inactivity” that size is too small for you. I think you want something that will paddle you into waves a lot easier until you get in really good shape. I’m 36, weigh 150 and I have a 6’3"x 18 x2 1/4 and I rarely surf it because it’s just such a workout paddling that thing. (And I surf several times a week). But since you’re 5’4" 150 you probably have a lot more muscle than me (i’m 6’0") so maybe you’ll be a stronger paddler.

But I would instead recommend you start with either the kind of boards called “big guy thrusters” which have a lot more volume, or something in the retro category that has width of about 20" (or more!) or go for a hybrid egg type shape like the Harbour Spherical Revolver I love (it’s a 1969era shape, paddles and catches waves like a longboard but turns great too). If you buy something like this used you can then sell again in a few months for about what you paid for it and then get a smaller board or pro-style thruster if you want.

Just an idea.

Hey, he said he could make some moves.

your probably right though, maybe a litle bigger.

i am going to agree exactly with what maraboutslim said, if you have been inactive for a while and you are an intermediate to advanced surfer you are going to want to go with something that is high performance but will float you and make surfing fun.

chances are if you get a 6’0 chip you are going to get frustarated and give up in a couple of months. you could get a fish thats about 5’11 by 21 1/2 by 3 or a little thiner and have turning ability but still have aboard that will paddle easy and catch waves like a machine.

i am 6’4 and i can ride a fish a little bit bigger then that with little problems.

i am pretty sure that just about everyone will say the same thing

Thanks to all for the advise. I have now an idea of what I need to go to the water again.
