Surfboard outline

Hi everybody, I’m new in swaylock’s so sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forums or if I am doing sometimg wrong.

I test a new shortboard that I shaped 2 weeks ago and the board was really hard to turn for cutback and bottom turn. I can’t find why the board was hard to turn, do you think the outline is too parallel ?

Thanks

Raphaël

It may be rocker a lot of the time the rocker of a surfboard has a huge impact on the turning aspect on a surfboard you might realise that it will be a lot faster with less rocker.

I had the same problem… Though yours is much better (lol!)

The problems turned out to be fin toe too straight and foam distribution too far forward.

I know nothing though. Could be rocker

It’s piggy…

My zone.

fins!

My guess?

Lack of mass in nose.

and post your fin specs. Do you feel like the board is very fast? Drive and manuverability are an inverse relationship having more toe increases drag but you respond faster in turns, having less tail rocker stiffens the turning radius but increases speed. did you do glass ons or boxes?

Ahoy Matty! Nice to see you ‘topside’.

Thank you for the help ! There is 1/4 " of toe in, 3 3/4" of nose rocker and 1 1/2 " of tail rocker.

I would add more toe in the future! tail rocker could be adjusted to But rocker totally depends on your waves so maybe the tail rocker is fine i would play with the toe.

Your outline looks fine.  Extra tail rocker typically loosens up handling.  Since the board is complete, the good news is you used fin boxes.  Smaller fins might help - rear fin seems to make the most difference in my experience.  If you are able, move rear fin forward. Fin(s) with more flex might also help.

A trick I’ve used is to make your own rear fin and position the insert tab farther back in relation to the fin outline.  This will effectively move the fin farther forward when it’s in place.  Relatively small increments make a lot of difference.

I made a board with a similar outline, about 6’ 7" x 20.5". I had a hard time figuring it out myself. The few times I rode it I couldn’t get it to turn the way I wanted. I ended up giving it away.

Fins and tail rocker would be my guess, too.

Make sure the fins are not too far back.  Shoot for around 11 inches for the back of the fin in relation to the tail. Or maybe ride it as a twin or make a small trailer.  Make sure your back foot is over the fins when you want to yank it  around.

all the best

Your board has a low rocker. I had the same problem I made one board with a pretty similar rocker to yours then I amped it up to around 5 1/4" nose and a 2 1/4" tail still went super fast and was still very responsive.
