Surfboard Value?

My hubby has a surfboard and would like to know the value of it is so I’m hoping that someone on this board can give him an estimate.

The board is circa 1960’s. It is one of WRV’s first surfboards ever shaped by Meyers. This is # 33. It has an original Shane Horan fin in fair shape. I have attached some pictures of the board.

Anyone who can help?

Its garbage.  The fin is worth more than the rest of the board.  Have a surf sacrifice and burn it this evening.  Throw the fin on eBay and see what it fetches.

If the fin is original it will be worth more than the board. Looks more early to mid 70’s, stock shape nothing too special. I would say in the condition that it is in the board is worth $50-75 and not sure on the fin. With vintage boards condition is everything.

The fin probably is worth more than the board but don’t throw it away; or if you do I’ll take it. :)

WRV would probably be more valuable in either VB, Nags Head, or maybe Hawaii (doubt it) where people are familiar with the brand. I have a 78 WRV shaped by Frierson that was only worth $125 when I got it and it was in better shape than yours (albeit, not as old either).

The fin really appears to be a version of the ‘‘Velzy Butterfly Fin’’ that was produced by Fins Unlimited, not the Horan fin.    Board looks to be 1971/1972, younger if the leash plug is original to the board.     Fin and board MIGHT fetch $200, but you never know, perhaps less.    Just a wild guess.

Did hubby find it in a dumpster?

I agree with Bill. That’s a Velzy Butterfly Fin.

Get it water tight and take it for a spin…

That would be Cheyne Horan BTW.

His fin looks like this:

No disrespect to Mr. Thrailkill but I’d like to meet the person who’d pay $200 for that POS. I’ve got some things I’d like to sell them.

Mako,

Like I said, just a wild guess.     My qualifier was, ‘’…perhaps less…‘’       You should never underestimate the actions of the uninformed public.         But, I do agree with you, $200 would be knocking it out of the park!

Bill

It’s not worth anything, but might be of interest to Les Shaw, who owns WRV.  He can be found at the VB shop at times.  Sometimes, as I recall, they display vintage examples of their boards.  Sell the fin separately, board didn’t come with that originally, try eBay or CL.

I am pretty sure that fin is not original to that board. 1960’s molded fins like that one did not exist. Again pretty sure. I was given one of those fins a few years ago and it did not make my “favorites” list.
