Surfing in Oregon

While this thread probably best belongs in Meet-ups, I know that section gets much less traffic than Here. I just moved to Portland for work and have been down to the coast to surf once already, but would like to have some people to surf with. Anyone in the area and want to meet up?

I’m in Bend. Don’t get out to surf often but fun to hook up if I do.

Hit the Cove on a weekend. Plenty of like minded folks there and at SS and PC.

im headed to central for the weekend. i’ll be in newport from saturday to monday. I just destroyed the fin box on my log though so I will have to rent a board until I get the new box on friday but won’t be able to put it in until I get back. I usually start on south beach and drive up to otter checking all the spots out in between, and than pick the best looking one.

Albacore-- stop by and see me sometime. I’ll be back in PC sometime Sat. After an extended trip to Calif. Blanks-Resin-Cloth and fin boxes. Lowel/Oregon Shapers 6410 Spring St. PC. (503) 560-5588

Go to Seaside; very friendly at the left point to the south. They don’t growl or anything  Actually, it is great wave that is easier to surf than it looks but it has to have some decent swell to work properly and if you mind your manners you’ll have a great time. Cannon Beach has its moments, too.

I will have to do that! I won’t be up that far north this weekend, I have a meeting to go to for the oregon commercial salmon season. its been probably 2 years since ive been to PC, and now that i’ve gotten much better I’de like to give it another shot on a good day. I have seen some amazing photos of that place both off the point and down the beach, is it gas chambers? but never have I had the luck to hit it on the right day… Are you saying you have those for sale?.. Maybe a discount if I trade some fish  Or even better, let me join in on a shaping. I’m in the market for a new board so if the price is right, ide really enjoy the experience of watching someone with some experience under their belt and the process and methods they have honed.

If you’re looking for quality, consistency, and easy, Ide agree with the above. The cove is my favorite wave for the fall, but it can get good year round with the right conditions. And if your out of shape and get tired easily like me, the rip is a life saver. Ride all the way in, 20-30 second ride, and if you know what you’re doing right in to the rip and you can sit on the board and let it take you back out. Double agreed with gunkie on the manners… You will know who the “locals” are. Let them take their waves, smile and have fun.

Mahalo to everyone for the advice. I am actually running into a surprising number of surfers in my office. If you ever see a skinny guy on a tiny Coil, it is probably me.
