Hi Brian - Being a dedicated cheapskate, it took me awhile to finally order one of your G-Rasps. I could not be happier with the purchase. It works better than the surform for big areas that need ‘cleaning up’ by hand. The sides provide a good place to get a grasp and the holes prevent build-up of cut material. I’ve yet to master baby-butt smooth power planer work so ‘crutch’ tools always have a place in my toolbox.
Hi Bruce - ROUND RASP
Shadows or contours?
Only her shaper knows for sure!
Shadows.
By no stretch of the imagination, hand shaping surfboards is sculpting art, albeit performance art with the distinction that the beautiful stuff has specific demands that have to work.
…DS you should resize those photos man; clogging most computers…remember what Huck said.
Thanks Reverb, I took care of it.
Sorry guys… they look gr8 on my new Apple Mac Pro 15"… Huck, please advise me what size to send over for these… medium and not optimized or what? I’m just the shaper man…
I’m shooting this with an I Phone 6+ that I know too little about, but maybe Huck or someone else will tell me to how to dumb it down or just take a hammer to the thing and feel much more relaxed for reverting back to the sanctuary of low tech.
I was happy with my little cheapie Samsung flip phone from Wal Mart that I did a Go Phone buy minutes deal… it was great. Now that I’m supposedly successful while supplying the globe, I feel more uptight unless I’m in my shaping room all alone by myself. With all the choices and this digital revolution I’ll probably either kill myself or be A.D.D. by the end of the year… or maybe just disappear to the south island of New Zealand and live in Bilbo’s old house.
I don’t need a stinkina round blade to do my tails !! ;-)
Amen !
Well then we are back to the mini sim again?
Not necessarily. A good Fish template, with an arc tail (point to point), in place of the butt crack, will really open your eyes as well as your performance envelope.
Deadshaper- i at first bought the WRONG tool, i brought a round rasp. Fyi - it didn’t work. Then i saw Tim Stamps vid w microround rasp from from foam ez and man, it works crazy good! Best to get one and try it.i end by say n: DON’T let the blade wander at the top -especially. It’s going to chew in at sides -marring up blank. Keep it tite as shown in vid. It’s like play n pool…well, almost. But keep that finger hold n it down on top of the part where it’s smooth. The tool is simply AMAZING! CUTS THROUGH IT LIKE A KNIFE THRU BUTTER!- Jim
Greg - i dunno how you shape that felix tail, but that thing is off the hook! Way cool. That tail design has to be harder than a normal fish.
That’s the one I bought micro…
Mellar showed me the one on Amazon and I ordered that one for good measure… you can never have too many tools.
Yup. That’s it! Just be sure not to let blade wander k. It won’t be the end of the world if it does a tiny bit. But if it tears into sides deck side it looks ugly. Keep the motions tight and hit stringer dead straight. Sometimes i did a reversal w out finger assist to take stringer down on bottom side between zee crack. But use your discretion k. I dunno, i just watched the vid three times and adapted my own formula. Have fun! This makes me want to build another Fish! but ironic Bill T brought up arc tail bcuz i am thinking about it.
But if one hasn’t done a good Fish tail you haven’t lived. ; l they r tough - I won’t lie.
