Swallowtail Tip Repair

A little help guys… I have an early 70’s G&S Single Fin/Wing/Swallow. When I found her someone had dragged the tips on the cement. I needed to get it in the water that week so I filed em off and resin covered em. It looks great standing up in the sand Lol.  Is there any turn loss, etc. I want to fix, or should I be bothered by it? It’s pretty clean cept’n that. Any ideas on the fix? Slo

Ouch!  That was painful to look at.  Double amputee.  Try a couple of pretty wooden tail blocks?  Mike

Someone probably just wanted the newest flavor of the month.

Dude, I specifically said 6’2!

Ha!

If it wasn’t for the foil, I’d say cut the rest of it off and make it a squash. But…

Square off the edges, glue on some foam, shape it down…and have fun matching the paint. Re-glass and ride.

Thanks for the tips guys! Been 40 summers since I did glass  Mahalo

Mike, good suggestion. A couple of tail blocks would look really neat, something laminated with contrasting woods.

And now for the Craigslist version:

"Pristine early 70s G&S swallowtail.  Mint condition except for minor scrapes on tips of swallowtails.  Easy fix"

I’ve done them with balsa blocks - quite durable.

Wow who would have thought … Art Center Design.
