Swaylocks events in Australia

Have there ever been or has somebody thought of organising a Swaylocks event in Australia similar to the shaping / glassing on a Saturday afternoon that occurs in California?

I know Australia is a big place bu you have to start somewhere… I’m in Victoria.

My experience has been, IF YOU HAVE ONE, PEOPLE WILL SHOW UP.

Hi fellow fisher !

GREAT idea…maybe you could catch up with ‘speedneedle’ [josh dowling] in vicco…[‘jan juc’ ??] the guy makes great sprayjobs ! [search under ‘let’s see some artwork’, and you’ll see what I mean ]. I think there’s a few melbournians floating around the place too …

Now there’s quite a few of us here, might need a directory of where we are situated…I know there’s 3 or 4 from newcastle and the same in perth…a few queenslanders …WHERE are the taswegians, and the crow eaters, I wonder ?? [we need THEM to round out the Aussie quota, for sure !!]

Quite a few from Sydney here, I think…

Why not meet up at a pub at one of the deadly contests. Noosa festival

Gidday,

I’m from Sydney and am just starting to restore old stuff at the ripe old age of 47!

Platty is to blame! Have been totally knocked out by his “Hot Roc” restoration on Real Surf.

Will be asking for help from all you guys. Can’t to wait to get started! Love to hear about peoples successes

and failures,

Marc

hi Marc !

where in Sydney are you from ? I lived there for 20 years . Now in W.A.

ben

p.s. - if you post on the “general discussion” section , more people read that , I think , so you might get some restoration answers there .

From what I’ve seen , “Platty” is THE man , though , when it comes to this kinda stuff . Never too late to learn , though …I think he would be about your age , 4 years older or so than me.

Thanks Ben, I will certainly take your advice. I live a couple of minutes away from Dee Why beach but spent most of my life surfing at Queenscliff. Try and get into the water as much as I can but am struggling a bit lately as a result of a knee reconstruction.

Great to hear from you,

marc

Howzit Chip, By any chance do you know Russel Lewis. He is from Austrailia and has been involved with judging contest and surf coaching for a long time. He spends time here on Kauai and has become a good frind over the years.Aloha,Kokua

THE Russell Lewis ?? from Dee Why in Sydney ?

Not personally , but he’s been in “Surfing World” mag for years !!

… I always wondered what happened to him …

if you post this on the “main” discussion forum , a few of the Sydney boys [‘singlefin69’ is from D.Y. , apparently!] may respond …

[if you title it “Russell Lewis” , maybe?]

I always wondered what he was up to …

and , doesn’t Chris Brock live in hawaii too , nowadays ? I love the stuff of him surfing a Shane ‘stubbie’ in “morning of the earth” …

 ben
Howzit chip, Yes the Russel Lewis, we;ve become good friends over the last 5 years or so. He judges contests with us and I think he's still the coach for the Hanalei Surf Co. boy's team. Great guy and he is always after me to glass some of his boards which I told him I would do this year. He tells me stories about some of the Aussie pros he coached. What was funny was the day I called him mumbles which is a nick name that a friend who lived in W.A. told me was Russels.Aloha,Kokua

and …

how about Chris Brock , then ?

is he living in hawaii somewhere , do you know , Mike ?

cheers !

 ben
Howzit chip, Name sounds familiar but can't really say I know Chris, may be he lives on another island.Aloha,Kokua

hi Mike !

have you seen

"THE INNERMOST LIMITS OF PURE FUN " ? [video] …

…he’s the guy getting barrelled off his nut at lennox , in 1969 (George Greenough’s neighbour in Byron Bay , for many years !]

Also featured in my “stubbie photo thread” …

ben

Howzit chip, Saw the movie when it first came out, my memory is not good enough to remember the pariculars in it.Aloha,Kokua

…I’ll have to search out a photo or two , then …
