i talked to a guy who seemed pretty unhappy about the whole swaylocks thing…claimed there is no free lunch at swaylock and people are on the board trying to sell you crap, claimed 40000 boards…and polyester resin is not that harmful to the enviroment and swaylocks trys to sell epoxy…any justification to this? or are big shapes hateful of garage shapers…
not saying i hate the sway…i love the sway and the lock. i try to do take what people say with a grain of salt…just thought i would bring it up cuz well i get to ask anything about surfing here…
___Cares what this guy thinks
XDoesn’t care what this guy thinks
Your right there are no free lunches. I have made a bunch of new friends via Swaylocks. Guys like Keith Melville are worth their weight in stoke. When I teach a guy to glass & shape I expect him to pass it along to someone else…so yeah there no free lunches, you have to hold your end of the bargin. I haven’t made 40000 boards, but i do more fine detail in my shaping than the average production guy so i think my shapes are more refined, because i can take the time to do it right, so it takes me all day to shape a board…so what? yes polyester is harm full to the environment, and I think it’s great guys like Bert are trying to push the envelope of epoxy…good on them. I hope Greg Loher sell 100,000,000 gallons of epoxy and becomes a zillionaire, all via Swaylocks. Greg shares knowledge, just like the rest of us.
Shame on Mr. Brucker and Mr. Phillips for trying to pass along the art via DVD. I say let the art die in it’s tracks. No soup for you! Yeah right, I hope those guys sell 1,000,000 copies so very kid in Kansas can make a surfboard, hang it up in his room, and dream of one day surfing a beautiful sunny Sunset, on a solid 10 ft NW set wave with a little touch of west in it that makes that A frame peak and makes you realize what life is all about.
Viva Swaylocks!
Hey tjk,
I think it’s fair to say that you should take the impetus to make you own decisions about the forum. Hell, why take someone else’s judgement about something. We’re all allowed to form our own opinions aren’t we? Last I checked that’s the way it was in the good ole U.S.A. It’s been my experience it’s that way here too.
A little research into the archives will prove very informative I’m sure. Just do a little reading share your impressions.
Mahalo, Rich
well we all know the guy was filled up crap head… the real question is do you think big name shapers disagree with swaylocks?..dont like garage shapers?and is it because we dont pay enviroment fees? i heard big names pay big enviro fees? i am a liberal …repeting stuff i hear…i went to big sur.met alot of you guys…the best time ive had in ages you guys are awesome…everyone that knows …spiter was cookin pizza on his engine manifold very great vib best memories in the water on sunday thanks too all and im still looking for the ambrose board…
People often critisize what they don’t understand.
Sounds like they need to spend some time expanding their horizons a little, or at least getting out of the styrene fumes for a while.
"We're all allowed to form our own opinions aren't we? Last I checked that's the way it was in the good ole U.S.A. It's been my experience it's that way here too"
A bucket of salt anyone?
let’s see his boards-in other words let his work do the talking , otherwise…
well this guy talked like a world class shaper…shaped alot of boards for a lot of big names…been around a long time…talked to him about 9.9 w rockers…im not a pro so am apt to take any advise thats what i was looking for but not what i got…
Yeah man i hate swaylocks!! All i get to do is ask questions get critiques and constructive information from people who know what they are doing and are excellent craftsmen. some like epoxy some don’t. That guy sounds like a douche bag and anyone who thinks that polyester resin is not enviromentally bad is just in complete denial to justify what they are doing is not bad. I am not saying they need to stop because of it (i don’t use epoxy only polyester) but we all need to be aware, not in denial of the implications of not properly storing and dumping toxic chemicals (catilyze resin tins before throwing away, simple stuff like that)

Walk the walk, talk the talk, glad this guy isn’t a member. Swaylocks must have made some kind impression on him be it either good or bad.
Nothing but good for me here. Would never have met such great guys and girls without it. Swaylocks brought me out of a rut of 20 odd years of not having a real purpose in life. My knowledge in building wood and foam boards has exponentially grown, my fitness levels have increased and I now have 3 little girls keen on surfing, some great new friends who do stuff with their craft in my shed and always something to do.
Keep the Goodvibes going…
Hicksy
I’ll add my “…aaaa-men , brotherrr…” to that !
ben
p.s. - I just this minute got back from the local post office , picking up a parcel of dvd 's a fellow swaylock guy on the other side of Australia sent me …don’t get that kind of generosity much anywhere nowadays !
Woe! Me and Stingray ran into one of these jerks at a board building supplier. He started talking S**t about Swaylocks…He said “those guys are a bunch of hacks” among other things… We couldn’t believe what this nut was saying… what a loser!
I think I know that guy he’s got blond hair anna black wetsuit useta liv at the house in front of the pipeline with hawk an owl and shaped boards for all the “names” mike jim tim gary buzzie carl and of course the unforgetable Trank Hudson.
fabulous shaper
all his boards were broken and stolen ,its too bad otherwise we could hold the fabulousness in our hands and marvel
…all those guys went on to become world treking heroin users ,alcholix and real estate agents …bless em all…ambrose…you will shape a better board if you dont listen to disgruntled apes…ambrose…
ha… thats funny he had mentioned all those names and that he used to live in hawaii…republican of the hard core…maybe a logger or a loggers boy…i was trying to adjust the the rocker on a 9.9w i ordered… and he started going off…just wanted to ask if i take 5"off, should i adjust the nose rocker a inch? he ended up trying to tell me to use wax paper stapled to the foam to get a template and on and on …i was at work and just glad to talk surf even though he was a idiot…and didnt ccancle my 1st order or answer my qu
"…you will shape a better board if you don’t listen to disgruntled apes… " … THERE you have it ! The best piece of life advice I’ve read for quite a while . …don’t miss the importance of what ol’ Amby has just typed !! ben
What da hell this guy think he is.
Everybody starts out of his garage or someone else’s shape room.
I did and also my friends.
Most of them have their own a factory. I remember even do they were shaping out of they’re garage, They were still pay taxes and dumping chemicals in the right place. Never trying to hurt the enviroment.
SO BRO YOU’RE TALKING OUT OF YOU ASS AND YOU SHOULN’T LOG IN ANYMORE TO SWAYLOCKS,KOOK!
