Chipfish,
I don’t have one. But I did while living on the Gold Coast for a while. Wish I would of kept it. Great alternative to channel bottoms at the time. I think the late Col Smith rode one? Great quiver you have!
just thought I would “resurrect” this thread [I’m bored…onshore howling again today] in the offchance that some new people here might have some quiver shots of their own to contribute ??
and Mr. Ambrose Curry …
I still EAGERLY await a shot of your quiver / collection of boards , please ???
cheers
curious ben
[i DID think of posting this on the ‘Artwork’ thread… art by the legendary ‘marsupial’…]

I have a few in my archives, but don't always have the supporting data.
the board on the left is an NSP popout, I think about 8' or 8-6, not too popular here, but I'm guessing the guy carrying it probably didn't care, he was catching everything inside, while the crowd clustered outside waiting for sets
when I'm at C-St. I like to take a walk and snap shots of people's boards
I met this guy at Stables - he recognized my "banana board" from pics I posted on Swaylocks, he had this beautiful Hynson quad fish (black knight?). Maybe he'll see this and fill us in a bit more, he was definitely stoked on this board.
sniper photo LOL
Every board here is made in China - this is where I bought my first board when I got back into surfing. I didn't even know anything about China boards at the time, but I asked the sales girl, how can they sell these so cheap? (I paid $300 for a new retro-fish, with fcs keel fins, leash, and board bag). She told me they're all made in China, we can make anything you want, any logo you want. I walked out of there a bit dazed and confused...I was still thinking surfboards were made by surfers, who lived at the beach, didn't answer phone calls, etc. LOL
My first board when I came back to surfing. Loved this board! But I sold it after a few rides, because I started making my own. It was really fragile, and dinged really easily. I decided to sell it while it was still in pretty good shape.
This was my second go-out after 23 years away from surfing, my friend loaned me this soft-top, we surfed Leo Carrillo, and I paddled out on this and was catching wave after wave, thinking "I've still got it!". A really stable, easy to ride board. It wasn't that easy, of course, and its taken me a couple years to get anywhere near where I used to be, and with age and etc, its an ongoing battle, but I'm as stoked as I ever was!

IIRC this was McDing's vintage Hansen from the Thrailkill roundtable, possible shaped by the man himself?
Kensurf's veneer work, from the Thrailkill workshop
IIRC this was like a 7-6 bonzer from Grain surfboards at the Vta. Sacred Craft, just a gorgeous board. He said Malcolm looked it over carefully, and said "you got it right", which just elated him.
I'll try to post up a few more later.

haha yeah Jick !
he has a SERIOUS collection of boards [from nearly 50 years of surfing] , and he is seriously stoked on them [and surfing] . He spends three months of every year surfing indo ...serious fun !! ha !
the other reason , is ...
setting the camera on a tripod , picking up a board , composing the photo, and getting the 'right' moment / facial expression for the self-timer to go off , is serious challenge stuff. [ I know , I've done it myself a lot over 30 plus years , too ! ] the damned timer often goes off when my head is screwed up [more than usual] in concentration...thank goodness for digital , and the delete button , and the instant results option ...in the days of film , we all wasted LOTS of money , time , and film , with such frivolous behaviour ...we wasted SERIOUS amounts of time , money , and effort , in fact !! [even good photographers , like my brother]
he would look different to the "long haired , bearded hippy" from your Whale Beach days , I'm sure , but today , out of all his friends , he still looks the most haired , and the most fit [because he still surfs every day , and also didn't skateboard as much as this fanatic did , hence my stiffness nowadays !....too many serious slams through the '70s , '80s, and '90s , so I gave it away [skating , not my skatey!!] in this new millenium , finally !] ]
huck , good on you for contributing !!! keep posting them up , mate ! [ no info is REALLY needed , it's a photo thread , when all is said and done!]
cheers !
ben chipper
great to have you on sways Jick , keep posting , don't worry about the [luckily , very rare minority of ] negative people's 'comments' , just keep ....

I think this guy's name was Scot or Scotty, I heard he passed away not too long after this picture was taken, this was a custom he had made.
I think this pic is pretty funny, it’s my wife’s aunt posing with a board I had just glassed (still needed sanding).
