Swaylocks Video?

I was thinking that their should be a video section on the forum where peoplecan put their videos.

But is swaylocks able to have embedded video codes?

Me and my friends first skating video

http://www.youtube.com/?v=858tmp_HbUA

Yer the only prob with videos is the compression and uploading to the web… video or at least decent quality video takes up shit loads of space and the higher the quality, the more space it needs, and the longer it takes to download…

What i did with the Wozzie video of hicksy glassing was just compress it and upload it my own webspace…

If people have a few short clips here and there that they make, maybe we could put together an entire dvd… dunno just a thought…

or we could get a list of the stuff people want to see, have whoever film it… do a bit of editing and make a full dvd of stuff like cutlaps, glassing stand creation blah blah resin swirls etc etc etc…

Agreed, this has been hanging around for ages. 3-4 min clips from members around the world, we’ll do the editing and subtitling, we need vids of people having fun with their craft or their lifestyle.

PM me if you want to send me stuff to put together (got me a new whiz bang 'puter with all the soft stuff). I’m sure Lavz and I could get a master created.

Lets do this now and raise some hard earned $$$$ for the site…

I double dog dare youse all…

…starting with the footage of you from sunday skating ?

You betcha, plus footage of Lavz’s how to vids (at higher quality) and more.

I’m excited!!! (RIP Big Kev, all Aussies will miss you)

where is the spillway / ditch you were skating chano ?

looks fun !!

hicksy has a skatepark with a similar setup not far from him …

Yeah thats a hot idea… get a few clips of the different things swaylockians wanna see… even some vac bagging etc maybe…

So you could have say a menu of:

1.) Cut laps

2.) Resin swirls

3.) Intro vac bagging

4.) pin lines blah blah

5.) etc etc…

Would be a great instructional video, perfect DIY.

and then sell the dvd online… make the copies and then sell them with the money going to swaylocks…

Sounds like a plan…

he died ?

…I never knew …WHEN ??

I LOVE this idea. I will begin thinking about a way to implement this.

But…Bandwidth and storage could become a $$ problem really fast.

Bottom line, if I implement this, I will need a way to fund it.

If anybody can think of a way to handle that side of things, I would be willing to begin implementation.

Some quick ideas.

  1. Paid subscriptions to actually view the video.

  2. Advertising in and around the videos.

  3. ?

Again, I love this idea…

Swaylock.

so… did anyone say “swaylocks DVD” available in swaylocks store for $19.95?

  1. DVD’s available in the online store

There’s one easy way and it’ll use almost none of your bandwidth. You could set up the files as bittorent files. It would be easy for everybody to use their own bandwidth to spread the files around. The great thing is that it would be only as successful as people wanted it to be. This is the same technology that hollywood is looking into to distribute their media (this is another way of saying that there is nothing illegal about it). Let me know if you’re interested and I’ll look into it more.

Do you have any examples of a site with a database or listing utility to reference the bittorrent files?

Also, will downloading the bittorrent client be too technical for most users? Also, ideally, there would be a way to play the movies within the swaylock’s framework (ie. see google video player).

Thanks,

Swaylock

Let me look into it. I only use the linux bittorrent client and its very easy to use. I know that the seed files are only a few bits in size. I’ll put together a step by step of whats required so you can decide if its worth it.

I’m not talking about using bandwidth at this stage, if people want to send me a link, cd or dvd of their footage I’ll be happy to whack it into a production quality dvd NTSC and PAL.

I’d be leaving the bandwidth issue alone for a while until we gauge the support for the DVD idea, one might be able to fund the other…just a thought…

does it still take up a lot of space if another website is hosting it like youtube.com?

Howzit Chano,I don’t think it affects the bandwidth since all you do is post the link to the website.Aloha,Kokua

No im talking about if i had a video code and it was be hosted from youtube.com and it would play here in a little box like it does on myspace.com and surfline

i would definetly buy a swaylocks video, and i am not that great of a shaper or glasser by any means but i would definetly love to donate some footage of me glassing or sanding or shaping, the more footage the better. I would be interested in editing sections as well, maybe we could organize it so that different people focused on different sections like i do resin swirls and another guy does pinlines, ect.

Then we have everyone send their respective footage to that person and they work on their section and then collaborate and put it all onto a DVD. THis would be awesome

Another note, I myself am very excited about experimenting with EPS blanks and Epoxy. Maybe we could put that on the video because Swaylocks is all about designs and advancements. We could show hotwiring and gluing in stringers, then shaping and glassing. Talk about new teqniques. I think we are all going to need to start adapting at some point, might be interesting to watch to say the least.

I think its a great idea.

It would be nice to get everyones expertise on a DVD…

or a series of DVD’s…

Swaylock’s Shaping

Swaylock’s Airbrushing

Swaylock’s Glassing

Swaylock’s Surfing

each $20

then assume that 1/10’th of the registered users buy it… so 390 copies sold… initially… i would think around 500 - 1000 copies all said and done…

so…

390 x ($20 x 4) =

390 x $80 =

$31,200

then take 50% for poduction cost and taxes…

$15,600… initially… enough to keep sways in business for a while?

or, if only 1/20’th of the members buy it… thats still $7,800…

In the shaping section we would of course now need to have both shaping eps and p/u blanks
