anyway, im wondering if anyone can give me some insight into using tint/pigment without covering the entire deck/hull. such as a ‘racing stripe’ down the middle with pinlines and keeping like 8 inches in from each rail white.
im assuming its done by taping out, but dont see how to keep a nice crisp lines, etc…
You can do it like Kensurf says but pigment panels are tough because they seperate and you have to have your timing down to pull the tape in time or be prepared for some sanding. An easier way (not as deep colors but easier) is to stain the foam. Tape off like you are going to paint the board and pigment your lam resin and just pour it on the foam. Use a squeegee to pull off the excess and then when it set pull your tape. You can finish it off by pinlining on the hotcoat with a posca pen after you glass it.
The quality will be affected by how nice you have finished your foam. If you have streaks in your foam you will have streaks in your color attempt. This shows really bad if you are doing a tint.
Howzit surf, You can do the stripe on the foam and the pin lines on the sanded hot coat. For nice crisp edges I vacumm the foam dust off then tape off. Make sure the tape edges and adhered o the foam real good and you should have no problems. Aloha,Kokua
