When creating outline templates, is there a rule of measurement in placing a tail bump? Does it affect fin placement or does the fin placement determine where the bump goes? Also, how does the bump placement differ for a traditional thruster set-up on a square/squash tail versus a traditional(or non-traditional) fish outline with 2 fins and a large butt-crack?
I am new to shaping, but I guess a tailbumps is kind of like one of those little kickpads? Like a deckpad with you the pad, just the back. I think that you would have to coorelate where the bump is with the fins, cause just from my surfing experience, it seems the more wieght you have over the fins, the easier it is toturn.
put the bumps where the side fins are
The REASON you put the “bump” is to create a pivot point for your quick sharp turns, so of course, you place the fin there also.
Some complex outlines have more than one “bump”. They use one set for snap off the tops, another for long drawn out power bottom turns.
Be aware, when you make your templates, you are putting in the first phase of “character” into your surfboard.
