Tail rail edges, round vs sharp

I surfed my twinny this morning for the first time. I expected it to be loose, really loose. It was quite stiff to turn. Im sure its my feet placement/lack of ability/front footedness, but im also wondering about the tail rail.

On this board, its tucked and round, with no hard edge behind the fins. I thought that might be not releasing as well as it should, so i’ve now added a bead of resin, which is ready to sand.

So, my simple question is could a round tucked edge cause a board to feel stiff/unresponsive compared to a hard, sharp edge on the same board??

My twin keel has a sharp edge behind the fins and it feels “free” to turn. Obviously i need to get used to this new board, but im curious as to whether adding a hard edge will make a difference,

Yes, i did do a few searches, but found mostly unrelated topics.

Cheers

It will certainly help.

Post a report as soon as you’ve made an assessment.

Hijack starting from… here. Should the “sharp edge” be rounded off in a similar way like the inside of a fin? By this I mean doesn’t slightly tapering the inner edge of a fin make for better performance?

I’ve been wondering if you should treat the edges under the tail the same way and taper the rail of the tail very slightly into the bottom of the board and leave the edge a little bit round instead of making it as sharp as possible. Bad idea?

hard edge makes a bit of difference, but tail rocker and fin setup is what makes a board loose

i have done the same experiment a few times and found the board feels a bit slidier but not a huge amount

it doesnt slide out on bottom turns in big waves if its got tuck

so hard as for small waves and tuck for bigger surf for positive feeling bottom turns

thats just my blowhard skippy opinion
