Does anyone know when Donald Takayama put the “Surfers Choice - Takayama Teriyaki Sauce” logo on his boards? Was it for a limited time in the 80’s, 90’s, etc.?
I picked up a used Takayama Opihi that has this logo on the deck and I was just trying to figure out the approximate age of it.

Mid 90's. As far as I know. He was at the top of it at that time. He should have stuck with that sauce. it was good. Hope he is continuing to live the good life. Last I heard he was in the Islands reliving his childhood and all were glad to have him home.

Donald had a heart attack or a stroke, (yeah I can’t remember) about two years ago, but has recovered. While we were having coffee one morning, (nothing like checking the surf in O’side with DT) he was upset that the people in California, didn’t really do anything to help cheer him up, but while back in Hawaii, he was overwhelmed by the amount of love and encouragement he received. He really was stoked by how much Ben Aipa lifted his spirits. DT is a passionate man, and one of the best if not the best, surfer-shapers ever.
Yeah----------- I don't know the full story; but he was supposedly on Molakai when he had that little heart spell. The only reason I know is that Molokai is also Maui County and word went around about it in the circles that I frequented. Heard He's on Oahu and loved by many. Met him at the C-Street Contest in the late 90's. Every thing in a person that you may have heard about him over the years. Which means; Aloha. He signed a poster of himself for me that I will absolutly NEVER part with. Lowel
