take a look

7’10’ gun-What do think boys?

Made her for Sunset.

Pictures can be decieving…

Looks like the tail is really narrow for the WPoint, meaning hard to take off early, slow to drop, kinda hangs up unless you really charge it down the face.

Coupled with low area rounded pin, on the pin side, tail might stay low while WPoint gives lift, meaning the board doesn’t point downwards right when you need drop in speed.

But pictures can be decieving…

the dimensions are 7’10’

10.25-18.75-10.25

2.85 thickness

does that sound workable…I’d hate to find out the hard way!

Thanks for the comments.

appreciate it.

Joe

For sure it will work.

The tail is super narrow, good for surfers who like that…easy to bank over, sensitive, quick to respond, good holding power…all good. But balance that with tough to catch waves early, great for late drops thos, sometimes push’s WPoint into the wave face when trying to angle in deep and late, quite a bit of teetering on the lip as you take the last couple of “make or break” hard strokes to get in.

Most semi’s in the 18.75 range will have about a 12.25" tail, with about the same nose, or 3/4" wider.

Thanks Lee,

I get the feeling you know what your talking about!

We’ll see how she goes come november…

tnx,

joe

Howzit haubush,Looks a lot like the boards I used to have Larry Strada shape for me except mine were in the 7’2’’ range. Every thing Lee said is true about this type of shape, but it will be fast for sure. Most of my friends didn’t like riding my board since at that time most were riding flat decked semi dowm railed boards which were more stable and mine was a domed deck and very unstable. But after getting used to them I loved them, many blind take offs at the Bay but down the line speed was unbeliveable. Aloha,Kokua

Mr haubush ,would like to hear how it goes come november. very nice.

I get the impression Leedd knows what he is talking about.

LeeDD…right ,He might be the man…Joey get worked inside bowl come winter maybe!

Whatevers!

hau-

are you gonna try it in ewa on a big swell, or are you gonna wait til winter?

it’s gonna be 4 months before you can test it. let’s see what damage it does to sunset!

Joe,

For many years, ('69/‘78) my favorite board for Sunset was 7’10", 14"nose, 21 1/2" wide, 13 1/2" tail, to a 7" square tail, single fin. That board was good up to a true 15’ @ Sunset. If your board has difficulty taking off, it will most likely be more due to the overall narrow width, than anything else. I may be telling you something you already know, but the most important thing I ever learned about riding bigger waves in Hawaii was that when you feel the wave pick you up to what feels like takeoff speed, DO NOT come to your feet but take an additional TWO or even THREE strokes down the face of the wave before standing up. This prevents being hung up high trying to drop in through the strongest part of the displacement wind moving up the face of the wave. It would be interesting to hear what you experience with that board once you have a chance to put it to the test. For my personal taste I’d like to see the WP more forward. (old school thinking) If the board is as fast as it looks, you’ll do just fine. Aloha.

Bill, how big ARE you?

A spent quite a few months in winter NShore, and get to surf OBSF as a tuneup before heading over.

At 140 lbs when I was surfing lots, 18.5 is normal width, but with a mid 12" tail single fins.

For tris, you’d want wider at the tail.

My 9’6" full guns were right at 20".

Pipe guns at 18.25", up to 8’6".

Im gonna be stuck on the mainland working in CA for at least 3 months just getting back to oahu occaisionally. So i’ll try it northshore probably…It’s at home now anyway and it’s summer so…
