Taping off the rails during Lamination stage???? Please help

I always see boards that have masking tape under the laps and was wondering at what point in the glassing process do you remove the tape, and how you would go about doing it?? my guess is it either happens once the glass starts to gel( you use a razor blade and carefully cut the cloth as you pull up the tape) or once it hardens you would use a pneumatic grinder and sand down to the tape. Thanks you for the help

Ya man, common question… try some searches on ‘cut laps’ and such.

When you tape off your cut lap, dont just use one layer of tape, start with 1" tape or so and maybe use some of the blue or green color painter

masking tape on top of that, then you can see it well. When you fold over your lap ride a fresh razor blade along the tape edge you created, using the

colored tape as a guide too. Pretty fool prool.

CAUTION: Don’t use cheap tape, go to body shop painter supply place, get some good 3M stuff.

sweet thanks

do you run the razor blade before it gels ???

Nah man, there is a magic time when it all gels out with the help of a bit of wax paper on your stand to keep things from sticking, you should

be able to flip your board and touch and cut what you need. Things kinda get gel like.
