Hi folks:
I am about to start shaping my first boards. I bought an 8’7"R and a 10’1Y. I am a big guy (6’7"x270lbs) and a mediocre talent. I currently switch around between a few of boards, including: a Larry Mabile-shaped G&S 9’0" single, 50/50 rails through the middle with a foiled and pulled in nose and tail (this is my favorite), a 9’4" Becker Mike Gee Model that has a round pin tail and 2+1 setup and a 9’4" Scott Anderson Josh Farberow nose rider (new acquisition that I really like). My plan is to duplicate the Larmo board with the 10’1"Y blank, adding a foot of length and maybe a tad more thickness and width.
I guess my question is, how much, if any, rocker needs to be taken out of the blank? I’ve come to realize, too late of course, that you can custom order your rocker. Since I am not trying to make a classic nose rider, but more of a Frye-inspired glider, I reckon that I might be alright with the nose rocker as is? Please tell me if I’m wrong.
With the 8’7"R, I’m a blank slate. The only thruster I’ve ever owned was an 8’6" Rusty Desert Island which lacked volume for my size. I want to do something fun and kind of funky/functional with maximum volume for the blank. I was thinking of maybe a diamond tail with a 2+1 set up so I could ride it as a single if I wanted to.
Thanks in advance for your help. You guys are great.
