Test of board #1

I am sorry about the delay on the review of my first board’s maiden voyage. I tested it out on storm surf from katrina after being evacuated from New Orleans. proably not the best of conditions. it still handeled pretty well in closeout sets. it was a little sluggish paddling in, most likely because it was too narrow. the board is more suited for clean head high surf. also, I had problems with the front left fin. I misdrilled the front hole by 1/4" so the board starts to glide left on take off (FCS plugs). Kinda like a car when you let go of the steering wheel. but once up it tracks pretty well. one other problem i ran into was fiberglass being a little brittle. I have 3 chipped spots and 1 delam. this I suspect was due to hotcoating when it was 95 degrees outside (epoxy construction). next board ill be more careful glassing, but I still think I did ok on my first glass job. Live and Learn, I guess. ill post “in action” pics when i develop my film and scan them in. in the mean time, heres the board…in case you either forgot it or didnt see it.

O ya…if anyone would like to see, this was N.O. prior to Katrina. this pic was taken when I skipped my design studio class.

Welcome back, Scott and good luck on number two. Mike

Nice work for your first board, or for any board for that matter. At first I thought your traction pad was really high up until I saw the way the fins were setup. What you will find is your skills will improve with each board your shape. At some point you might even wonder “was the board more well designed or did I just execute better this time around?” Good Luck on board #2.

Nice shape, really spread fin cluster.

my thoughts too.

Ya, I admit I suck with Fin Installs. I mis measured the lengths and they turned out to be 1.5" too far forward. on the flip side, the board shoots down the face at amazing speeds and straight as an arrow. the problem is that make turning a bitch, especially when your headed for a rock. (time to bail and jerk on the leash)

I like the paint job.

I drilled plug holes wrong on my first board too. Nobody knew unless I told them so keep it quiet. Later on I re-did the fin plugs and the board works great. I did it late at night and did not tell anyone!

Have fun with your new board

Ray
