thanks george !

something new from george with G.Tate’s stamp of approval

picked it up from chris this past weekend with only one more weekend to go to give it a go before my knee surgery for my torn meniscus I’ve waited half a year for.

sorry i didn’t try it yet but i’m hustling getting all my chrismas wood crafts done while i can still stand all day infront of a lathe, grinder or band saw.

i guess the good thing about becoming a tempory invalid for a while is that i can go back to relearning and playing my guitar to keep myself occupied.

I’m sure sharkbait will be over trying to borrow this for a test drive soon

the stuff I’ve been working on for the past month or so leading up to my surgery

crafts

1

made from the left over hole saw eremnants of my wood bracelet gifts. I was going to make FCS fins plug and leash inserts but this is more practical if not more expensive

3

pine wood lomilomi(massage) sticks

5

uisng the left over pine from the lomilomi sticks are rubberband guns and letter iopener handles

4

years ago i bought this whole plastic container of old koa flooring that I’m recylcing into wood letter opener blades for the pine and wiliwili wood handles

6

half of the bin cut up ~200+ blades

10

when i’m on critches I can sit down and glue all these up for shaping at a later time

more handles to cut from old scrap wood. I try to make use of everything

been busy…

and thanks wood ogre I finally opened your box and tried a couple pieces from your old scap for pens recently and I’ll send some finish pieces your way for the holidays.

funny people at work seemd to like the fancy plastic bling bling pens with the swarz crytals and stuff

but like i said many years ago… wood-is-good…especially hawaiian woods

I like everything about that board!  (I don't fully understand a-syms, but I'm trying to learn)  I figured this thread was gonna be about an a-sym.  Thanks for the tour of your wood projects too!  Hope the surgery goes well with a speedy recovery.

Question:  Does your board have a shorter turning radius frontside turns or backside turns?  I surf mainly backside, so. cal. points (rights, and I'm goofy foot).  My backside turns seem natural, but whenever I surf frontside, or when I'm going backside but turning frontside, like a cutback, I wish I had a tighter radius.  Is that how a-syms work, or am I backwards of everyone else? (wouldn't surprise me if I was LOL).

Sweet! From my experience riding a board I made based on George's design, you're gonna love it!!!

BTW, do I see some menehune fingertips on those rails? :D

all i can say about assyms

is that the only people i know who can surf the same front side and backside are those who can switch stance like my brother.

so if most of us surf assymetrically it kind of makes sense

so yes the bottom contours, rocker  and outlines are different between the forehand and backhand side

chris who has an ekstrom/bufo glassed board said the weird thing is that you won’t feel anything significan other than everything just ends up smoother.GG’s boards and my Gemini were the only boards that got me “mind surfing” ie think it do it no staging no prep moves.

this esoteric need to have sexually carressed outline is just for the fake artsy part of surfing that uses looks to justify the stupid high costs.

that’s what made surfing as screwed up as it is today… where looks and labels means everything

as an owner of a gemini, surflight and a 10 year old pink jim dunlop bonzer bottom 10 thruster long board its about function and performance versus looks in my quiver. that’s why i prefer plain white boards as color and graphics never seems to make a difference in boards performance only increases the purchase and maintenance cost.

one day i will also get a jet bottomed board or something from tom petersen.

Hey I know someone who will test ride it for you. What are the dims?

Oneula,

from someone who had two, good luck withhyour meniscus surgery.  Best advice I can give,  get an excercise bike and spin, spin, spin during your recovery, best thing possible.

cheers!

Lookin’ good Oneula!

Here’s to a speedy recovery…

I’ve got one of your letter openers, thanks again =)

thanks

actually this is my third knee meniscus Arthro surgery.

second on the right that i tore about 5 years ago

hurt it again trying to jog to lose weight

this is actually a prep look at whether i qualify for complete knee replacement surgery on both knees

i don’t have any meniscus left in my left knee from too much tennis abuse in my younger days

i’m little too young but everyone around me has been getting the complete knee replacement surgery.

not looking forward to that one…

i’d send one of these recycled wood letter openers to everyone if i could but you know how it goes…

i try to do my best to spread as much aloha as possible…

Howzit Bernie,As one who had the same surgery over 30 years ago you shouldn't be on crutches for more than a week and another 2weeks before you can surf if you have a good surgeon. If those pro football guys can be back onthe field in 3 weeks, you can be back in the water in the same amount of time if all goes right. What is your tee size and I hope you canwear a lge. Talk to your brother about the PM I sent him. Aloha,Kokua

Bernie, good luck with the surgery.    you won’t feel a thing.  until you wake up.  and walk.  ha.  do not drink any alcohol with the Advil.  otherwise your liver will turn into a brick.

As for the board, I can’t wait for your full ride report.  The one George made for me is the only thing I ride now.  Can’t wait to get a second one.  It will be a kind of a step up.  Maybe 68/66.  What are the dims on yours?   Mine is 64/62 by 21.   per my request, hard tuck rail edge ala GG.  Your explanation of aysimm feel is dead on.  my backside is dramatically improved, but it just seems natural. I may never go sym again.

After Carl Eckstom, George is the brain trust on these things.  I learn so much just talking to him.

Huck, get one.  Study it.  Build it in wood.

and I love the looks I get on the beach walking by guys who know boards.

all the best

Looks fun, very nice.  I just need more space and money so I can start the wood working back up.  Thanks for the inspration, speedy recovery.

trying to figure the board out - are you regular or goofy foot?
