Thanks to Mr. Paul Jensen - wood fin inspiration man...

I finished this project a while back, but need to acknowledge the source of my inspiration. Thank you Mr. Jensen: you make some beautiful boards, fins and tools.

A few people have said in posts past that even after having built many boards, they get a rush the first time they put a new one in the water and find out that it floats. I have had that feeling a few times now, and nothing beats it.

Thanks again for the inspiration…

When I first scrolled down the picture, I thought it was one of my fins…

I like what you’ve done…

A unique way of how the “rays” come out of the base…

Clean…

What’s next…???..

Hey Paul,

Thanks! The ray focal point is at an arbitrary point in front of the fins. I used AutoCAD to set the ray angle, then calculated the ray thickness (leading and trailing edges) and lengths.

What’s next?

I’ve started on a few more “wedge type” fin projects. I also want to try the foiled plywood fin idea.

I like the benefits of removable versus glass-on, so my next few projects will involve messing around with fins that fit into conventional fin boxes. I like your idea of using the angle aluminum for the screw mount. I noticed that on a few of your removable fins (in the fin section of you website) you have used the angle aluminum mount on both the fore and aft edges of the fin. Why not go with a stainless pin at one end and the angle aluminum at the other? Do you find that the fin “seats” in the box better when secured at both locations?

Thanks again.
