The Surf industry is sooo awesome. A place where you can earn a living doing what you love… Surf the dawn patrol then go off to work… The downside is its full of back stabbing, paranoid, snakes. It amazes me what people will do for money and fame. The level of drama, greed and the things I’ve seen in a short time blows my mind. In no other industry have I seen such bad business practices and BS drama based on the desire for attention and money. The only thing I think that can come close is Hollywood.
Paddle Surf Hawaii will continue to operate on the up and up and will not stoop to a level where GREED and PARANOIA dictates our moves. We do not feel we are competing with anyone. We are to busy just trying to get our own sh*t together to provide awesome products for our customers around the world. It is a tough job but still way more fun than anything else I’ve been part of… I LOVE MAKING GOOD SURFING BOARDS!!! We are in business and everyone in our company smiles big and is stoked everyday. Why? We care about others.
If you operate on greed and fame and will go to any length to grow your business including burning people along the way, join all the others that will have a huge KARMA back lash that will send your selfish self into misery… Beware of your actions. You can only skate so long screwing people over… Your time to pay will come.
This message is to all those deciding to get into the business end of SUP. If you operate on honesty and integrity, you can succeed. You will be able to sleep at night comfortably. Do not alter your integrity and stick to your guns! Business like everything else in life can be done very successfully when done with truth and honesty. Your good Karma will follow you and spread to others with the same mind set… Aloha to you honest business people!!
Plenty times already. Not just me either. What I’m seeing now is a sad reality of insecure, wanna-be famous people that are slowly digging their own greedy graves but the sad part is all the people they are taking with them… The reality is, plenty companies in the surf industry operate this way. Nothing new.
I hear you loud and clear. For such a cool and laid back lifestyle, the industry sure does have some petty and insecure individuals.
Its seems to be worldwide as well.
On a few occassions we have had lies told about us and one time the authorities called for unsafe work practices, all with no substance. All by someone with an intimate knowledge of the industry. Even had a multinational surfboard company try to bully suppliers into not dealing with us, which of course is highly illegal.
I cannot prove it , but I have my suspicions that these are one in the same.
All we can do is keep providing customers with the products they desire and the quality they expect.
The best revenge is to succeed and be happy in your work and the way you do business and live.
brah, same, same, i get plenty ratz ovah heah. no kidding aside, that sucks I know the feeling, makes you wonder who you can trust. I have become pretty good at weeding out the flakes and haters… let me know if I can help on this side.
I was a ding monkey operating at the lowest of levels on the totem pole of the business making chicken scratch while the shop was raking in a better profit margin than the rest of the industry. Sadly the pay would not cut it in life and had to move on. It was the most fun I’ve ever had in my working experience. Having learned some of the skills and being able to repair most any kind of damage does not give me the balls to go out and start my own repair shop. Balls alone can make one successful. Balls alone does not give me the confidence that I am doing the best that can be done. I’ll wait until my testes descend from my abdomen till I do anything industry related. Until that happens I’ll be a happy hobbyist learner.
