Will do. Mahalo
Yeah, I would love to have like a 10 gallon Item # 67708 from Harbor Freight (like around 6 cfm @ 40 psi or so, 14 amps). My only concern right now is that it draws like 14 amps. That's not huge but I have an old fuse house. So I have decided to go the doc-route and buy electric for now and see how it goes. I will pick up something like a Proxxon 38544 2-in which only draws like an amp. It does NOT have much control over speed so I will eventually have to pick up or build a Variac. And I would have liked 1 1/2" not 2". But I'll see how it goes - maybe I can adapt the thing to a smaller diameter grind. But thanks for the comments because I may eventually spring for a 10 gallon air compressor (I realize 25 gallons would be more industrial-strength). My hope is that I will find a number of different sander/grinder options that will work with this tool (such as I found with Harbor Freight's 4 1/2" 14.99 cheapo grinder which I am happy with since I found 5" sandpaper/bits/pads and stuff that works with it). So I'll see how it goes Tuesday when I shop. Right now I am sick of grinding my glass-on fins with a large grinder - I just want something that weighs like a pound and is easier to swing. I don't mind the $165.00 for the Proxxon as long as it works. I don't mind using a 4 1/2" grinder to shape a fin from wood but to grind one down that's been glassed I would like something smaller. And the smaller one would make it easier to grind next to the fin when I spill resin accidentally. I hope I can find some nice bit/pad options for the Proxxon but the grinding wheel should be ok for a while. In my case, it's kind of sad because I need to grind down not just the glass but the fins - I came in a little thick on the two I just glassed-on so I will need to take a wee bit out of the middle and then recoat and glass but I'm actually not worried - I started today with the 7" grinder and it's going quite well already. I just want that fine tool to get real accurate now that I've roughed it out pretty good. Jesus, what made me use Meranti Mahogany to shape my fins - it made me make them thicker than cedar or redwood or Pauwlonia since it just takes longer to grind down mahogany because it's so F-in' hard! My cedar was just a little too soft for my liking - I'm a masochist! Thanks to ding, surfding, doc, and everyone for your useful comments about pneumatics vs. electric.
PS By the way, I was actually born on Proxxon - it's in the Milky Way!
We have 1 as well. Easily 8-10 years old. Thousands of boards. Honestly…Ive probably oiled it once if I have ever.
