The Best right Angle Die Grinder On Sale

On sale now thru 11/30/2011.   On sale for $9.99 and NO;  That's NOT the price on a pizza box.   Right angle die grinder, no cumbersome safety, Regular price $19.99.   As advertised in Harbor Freight's sale paper that came with the local newspaper this past weekend.  It's a "super coupon".  By Central Pnuematic.  This is the one that I am usually pumping up when the topic of die grinders or free laps comes up.  So "heads up" guys.

I have one and hate it.

Get the Ingersol Rand  90 degree  die grinder.  Ive been using one of mine for about nine years its still going …  get the grease instalation  gun too.  and lube it up evert 4 months.  I love mine !!!   It costs about $95.  well worth  It.  Brog

seriously? you’re a nice guy and a well informed board builder but this one is tough to beleive. HF tools are usually “Shitcago Erratic” or “South Central Pooneumatic” and suck beyond single use applications. however, i spend 9.99 on a good six-pack sometimes. i don’t even need a die grinder but for 9.99, and if you say its so great, i might just order one and find a use for it. honestly, no offense intended, ive just never had any half way quality tools from these guys.

I bought one several years ago, and have had no bad experience with it.    That said, I'm not using it in a ''production'' environment, but well beyond single use.     Luck of the draw, perhaps.     At the current price, how could you not take the ''gamble'', eh?

HF is hit or miss.

I’ve got 3 of their Chicago Electric power tools that I absolutely ABUSE and have been going for years.

  • 4" angle grinder

  • 7" polisher sander

  • 1/2" electric impact gun

You miss read my post it says IR  wich is short for INGERSOL RAND.   I do not codone the Shitcago either,  they work in the garage but thats about it.   A wise man once said,  buy once cry once.  when it comes to tools.

Well kiss my Ass!  Next time I'll keep my reccomendations to my self.   I' ve ground more laps with my nine year old Central Pnuematic/Harbor Freight die grinder that most of the smart ass know it alls around here will ever see or lap.  It's small, cheap and I don't reccomend shit  that falls apart or won't do the job.  How many parts are in a die grinder anyway?  You can buy an IR for $95.  I'll go out this weekend and by a backup that i never seem to need for $9.99 and buy a bunch of six packs with the money I'll save.

McDing I am a tool snob in general. However I have to agree with you on the Die Grinder from Harbor Frieght.

I have a couple and one of them is 10 years old. Like you say there are not too many parts in them. Just keep them oiled.

Production?

The factory I started out in used them to grind laps on Channel Islands in full production mode.

OK other items like electric routers and sanders buy higher end tools.

For Pnematic Tools the Harbor Freight are cheap and not bad. I have a few different ones.

I buy high end on everthing else.

Kind regards,

surfding

Nice tools are, well, nice, but I have never had a HF tool give up the ghost on me. Through some years of daily mechanics use, the air ratchets, air guns, drills, etc… have never let me down. Sure for stubborn, heavy duty stuff, I may have needed to borrow a better impact gun, but for the daily lugnuts, they were no problem. I watched guys sell their soul for Snap On, Mac, and Matco only to end up selling them for pennies on the dollar back to the tool guy to which they were still in debt after quitting the business, but alas, my Central Pnuematic tools keep humming along without a lick of maintenance or upkeep save for a daily wipe down.

Embrace your tools, recommend what works, decry what doesn’t but don’t believe the hype that a $200 tool outperforms a $20 tool ten fold. That said, I just picked up a HF planer the other day. Looking forward to carving away what covers the shape I want.

Thanks SD.  I appreciate the confirmation.  If there is anyone around here who knows his tools that would be you.  Still longing for the day(and the money) to add a Laguna bandsaw to my tools, based on your reccomendation.     Doyle-------- So there's a board in there somewhere waiting for you to dig it out.

McDing:

Like I said the Pnematic tools from Harbor Freight I have had no problems with them.

My first planner was a Harbor freight. (One board then retired)

Depending on how many boards you plan to plan to build will detrime what quality of tool you may need?

Planners are more critical than Pnematic tools.

For Bandsaws the Laguna 16 HD 4.5HP Baldor Motor is great for building wooden blanks.

In general the Laguna is over kill. However I do love it.

A smaller bandsaw is fine for most functions,

3/8" blade for templates

1" for resawing.

I think I will stop by harbor freight and pick up another angle die grinder on the way to the shop.

Their on sale!

Kind regards,

surfding

I bought a HF laminate router to do fin boxes as a backup, and now it’s done more boards than the two routers before it. It’s not a Cadillac, but it cuts true and has paid for itself many, many times over.

I'm going to do the same.     Can't beat theprice!

Scuse my ingnorance.  What kind of compressor will I need with this tool.  Maybe I’ll pick up both this week.  I heard Harbor Freight has angle die grinders on sale…Mike

Hey Rooster,  you don’t need much of a compressor to drive these grinders since you run them at 40 psi or so.  But, the size of the tank determines how often the thing is switching on/off and how much the compressor is running which affects the longevity.   HF has a couple of oil-type compressors which are 8-10 gal tanks for around $125 during this sale.  I have the 10 gal (for home use), and it’s fairly reliable for occasional use but it’s gone through a couple of regulators in the last 3 years.  For a real shop compressor and hard plumbing, 25 gal is the min I recommend.   On the grinders, I have a two HF ones.  Both are 7 years old and the one has never been out of the box.  There’s not much wear on the tool just grinding laps even if you did 10 boards a day.  When you put the air tool oil in, run it away from the board for 30 sec or else you may get oil on the lam.

Got it, Pete.  Thanks.    Mike

Just picked up another one yesterday.     To get the $ 9.99 price, you need a coupon.     Otherwise it's $ 14.99.   Still quite a decent price, IMO.

Aloha McDing:

Thanks for the tip.  Too bad we don't have HF in Hawaii.  I visited my first HF store when I was in the San Diego area last week.  Great store!  At $9.99, i would buy two of them and not buy the extended warranty. That should get at least 5 years or sanding for $20.  I think that is money well spent.  On-line it is $14.99 plus shipping.

Mahalo,

Uncle----------- Pm me with your address.  I'll send you one with a quik release;   "Para Nada".  El gusto es mio.  Aloha Lowel
