If a Jacobs has a “Hap Jacobs” logo rather than “Surfboards by Jacobs” or a plain “Jacobs”, all inside the distinctive curved diamondy shape - what was the first year that particular decal was used?
Someone will know more about this than I but here’s what I can add:
The “Jacobs” logo was used by Hap and his company post Velzy & Jacobs, all the way up until the 70’s when Hap got out of the surfboard bis. Wayne Rich bought the rights to the name/logo and was making boards outta Santa Barbara using that and the Wayne Rich logo. Hap then got back into the board business in the 80’s and since he didn’t have the rights to the “Jacobs” name he went with his familiar logo but used “Hap Jacobs” instead. Recently Hap got the “Jacobs” name/logo back and togehter, he and Matt Calvani are building boards under that logo again.
Probably shortly after the VELZY/JACOBS split in 1960.
EDIT: Surfore has it right.
Thanks for the info.
