"The JAVA file "BoardCAD(2).jar" could not be launched"

Hello Everyone,

I really have a problem going on here and desperately need your help:

I have an issue with BoardCad. I think I am using BoardCad 2, the file name is “BoardCAD(2).jar” (is that version 2.0?).

And I exidently downloaded the new Mac update Sierra. Now BoardCAD doesnt open anymore and states following error message:

“The JAVA file “BoardCAD(2).jar” could not be launched. Check the Console for possible error messages.”

Well, what do I do now?

I want to keep the same version as I have, I do not want to get the new version. All my files are in .brd and I want to continue working with the version I have.

Is it possible to download the same version (2.0) as mine? Where can I do that? Or even better, how can I fix my issue?

I really need help on this.

Thank you very much,

Mica Lourenço

What OS did you upgrade from and what version of boardcad is it? Certain versions won’t work with the newer mac os versions. I don’t think they support, build or use the .jar version anymore anyway since there’s a packaged installer for osx that actually works. The .dmg file is pretty simple to get working if I recall. Should be a few clicks and you’re done. The new versions don’t seem too different, just more stable and better and all your old files should work.

+1 for the dmg.

Just putting this here in case and for future reference: ‘java - jar boardcad.jar’…

Hello drzoidberg,

thank you so much for your reply. I am not really a computer pro so some things are like chinese to me

Well, I upgraded from Capitan (where my board cad version still worked) to sierra. The version I have is 1 i think… And I really would like to keep it. Which Java does 1 need? It is 6 or 7 right? I istalled 8, and that doesnt work obviously. Now my idea is to deinstall java 8 and reinstall 6 or 7. Do you think that might work?

Besides, do you know if I can open .brd files with board cad 3?

And:

What does that mean?

+1 for the dmg.

THANKS!!
