Geoff McCoy and Wayne Lynch! Unholy Allah, whos next? A Dave Parmenter model? I find this shocking. Also, in spite of the fact that SurfTech makes a CI Flyer, they don't make any mention of it on their website. You have to go to the CI website to see it. That
s strange. But these are the best looking SurfTechs to date. They even appear to have a fake stringer. Mmmmm… check those Nuggets (no pun intended): baby blue with doo-doo brown. -------------------- For a free Bad Moon sticker, send a SASE to: Bad Moon Inc. 2646 Palma Drive, #335 Ventura, CA 93003 www.thebadmoon.com http://www.surftech.com/short.html?label=29 http://www.surftech.com/short.html?label=28 http://www.surftech.com/short.html?label=28
Hey Looks like the nose, and the tail, are parts of different boards melded together into one. As if I could do better…but I’d sure try to.
Is it just me or do the surftech McCoys differ quite a bit from the regulars? Seems to me that the tail is narrower and pinned more. www.mccoysurfboards.com Oh yeah, and check out the gossip section. Click more 2 or 3 times and read about why Geoff McCoy does not use a shaping machine. What a load of BS! regards, Håvard
looks like a updated lazor zap Horan use to ride back in the day
Looks like a board for people who don’t know anything about surfing. Wide nose, wide center, pin tail… What type of surf is this thing for anyway? Small mushy backed-off slopey crumblers? You couldn’t nose ride a board like this, and with all that volume and surface area at the front of the board, you certainly couldn’t expect to drive off the tail effectively. Usually when I see a board like this in the water, the rider is standing in the center of the board and then they fall off as soon as the wave starts to get steep. This type of shape is popular with beginners and guys who have been surfing for 30 years but never quite got good at it. Nobody else would be caught dead with something like that. No disrespect to anyone who likes to shape these, but I just never did understand the popularity of this kind of shape. And yes, I have ridden these plenty of times over the years, only to come away disappointed every single time.
I think driving off the tail feels forced and unatural(personal preference of course). The funny thing is, my only true modern shortboard is a Surftech. I figure if I am going to ride unaturally, why not have my board match? Have you ever watched Morning of the Earth or seen footage of Terry Fitzgerald at J-Bay or Lopez on a Coral Cruiser? Flow, style and speed all from the middle of the board(sometimes even from the nose ). I’ve seen just as many lousy surfing fat guys trying to catch waves on a toothpick, because like everybody else they too want to be Kelly Slater. Of course, I’m not complaining as I stroke for one 25 yards further outside on my 10’0.

I’m not one to poste negative feedback or anything, but Wide nose, Wide middle and a pin tail? Perhaps the reason you don’t like these boards is because you are riding them backwards. Notice the Leash Plug on the “Wide Nose” end? Your point is well taken though… good job
I heard Cooperfish is on board with a surftech model.
Boy… You guys have elevated to bashing McCoy’s designs now? Now I understand bashing Surftech… and McCoy’s business decisions… but his designs? Wow. Look up Cheyne Horan sometime. -Carl
Cheyne could have won the world title if he was on more conventional designs. I remember he did and interview years later and had some grumblings about the design. I saw him blow many heats due to the limitations of the McCoy design. Cheyne’s talents speak for himself, and could even ride a FP and rip.
Cheyne was a victim of prejudice. You look at his record in the 1982 race and he won like 6 or 8 out of 15 contest and placed 3rd in a few more and 5th in a couple more and did not win the world title. I have run enough contest to know Cheyne Horan should have won the title that year. 1979 was more of the same. Cheyne did not play by the in crowds rules. Cheyne’s surfing is what later became the style of surfing done today: he invented the floater among other moves. Mccoys designs from twin fins to his no nose that became the modern shortboard speak for themselves and continue to be copied by shapers. You want to make fun of Mccoy go ask Mark Richards, Simon Anderson, and a host of other shapers and surfers how he has influenced our sport.
Cheyne rips.
Surftech sucks.
Here is a surtech: Styrofoam blank (just like a cheap beer cooler at Sav-On drugs), wrapped in a thin sheet of particle board, followed by a wrap of plastic.
I saw a cross-section of one. Bad advertising idea by having the cross sections at the surf shop.
I can only pray they are even more flammable than real boards.
