the " little fins " photo thread ....

Hi Ben,

I’ve only tried the Jobson twinzers and the Futures TW canards (not pictured b/c they’re in my board currently). They add a lot of hold relative to riding this board without them (I tried it when my canard busted out). Here’s the board I use them in:

I’m gonna give the bonzer runners and the some of the other canards a go in my new “twonzer” mini-Simmons, once I finish glassing it. The main hang up is trying to accommodate all the different cants for the canards. E.g., the Futures TW have all the cant built in (11 degrees), the bonzers have 18 degrees built in (but should be 22 if IIRC), and some of the others are flat or have 4 degrees built in. So I decided to install Probox in the front to hold all these different canards and be able to change the cants. For the main twin fins, I’m going to use Robin’s new Gearbox with 4 degrees of cant.

I also have some bamboo/carbon canards to finish making. Too many projects!

unreal , good on ya !

thanks heaps for the photos ,  it looks like you’re having fun !

…probox , good idea !

and I’d LOVE to see the bamboo / carbon canards , when they are done , sounds great !  [will they be probox tabbed , then ?]

  cheers , " ghosty " !     :)

Nice Ben. You’ve got a lot of fins there.

Bernie and I started resurrecting the Koa board that those off cuts came from. We sliced it in half then added 2 new panels of EPS and reset the rocker. We saved the top panel which was Bamboo, and the bottom section which is the Koa.

Bernie will end up with 2 new boards when this is all done.

Got it all in the vacuum bag then I left. Bernie will have to pull it out tomorrow and then put all the jigs away. "

…yeehaaawwww !  you’re S T O K E D ,  yeah ?!

…I’d love to see the finished boards , guys !

[maybe if you put in probox [?] , I’d see about koa inlay fins for you ?!  …waddya reckon , harry and bernie ? ]

    cheers

Here’s a shot of a pair of little quad rears crafted by our own Ben ‘Fins’ Chipper, which I had in my board a couple of days ago in punchy little low tide beachbreak peaks. They work really well with the heavily raked Fin Solutions fronts - great hold on the steep takeoffs, but super loose when you lay back into a turn. Thanks Fins!

Gday Bill thats interesting., i really look into all that old stuff for inspiration for my boards.  I was turned onto this setup from Byron guys riding Displacement hulls but wanting abit more hold in the bigger stuff. I agree that that the template and placement works great, I sorta just got lucky and eyed where to put the fins. Had some great sessions at lennox point with it.

Heya Ben yep this is one of my boards.

thanks heaps Cass !

  glad you’re enjoying them , mate !

I’ll get [brother] Simon’s ‘bonzer 5’ down off the under ceiling rack , at some stage , and get a few shots of the carbon fibre strip inlayed runners …
