The other venues: rate, rave, rant, review, recommend?

There’s plenty of other venues out there for getting your surfboard design/build fix, sharing your stoke, etc.  Websites, blogs, Facebook, Instagram, other forums, am I missing anything?

any you love, hate, recommend, and so forth?

let it all hang out, tell us what you really think, links always appreciated!

Sway’s is still “king” (I think, I think)

Although, every ‘Dog’ has it’s day, I guess.

It’s like banging your head against a wall in here sometimes.

just awaiting for a reply from ‘SURFER mag forum’

Swaylocks has become frustrating for me, mainly due to lack of conversation.  I’ve moved most of my recent threads over to errors and bugs, because there just isn’t any interest in general discussion for the kind of stuff I do, and over in E&B there has been a small group of supportive posters who have kept me going.  In General Discussion my threads fall pages behind very quickly, and so I don’t get any response.

But while I still think Sways is king, especially after searching the internet for other venues, I will continue to look for a venue where I can get some better response / interest in the subjects that are of interest to me, as I still am keenly interested in certain facets of surfboard construction and design.

I joined Instagram and Facebook at the insistence of my daughter, so she can keep in touch, since she is living down in Mexico right now.  Turns out I had joined facebook years ago, but bailed after it became overwhelming.  After I tried signing up and they reminded me I already had an account, I remembered.  Constant windows popping up with people wanting to “chat”, and asking me to “like” their farms, or some such nonsense.  So this go around I disabled chat, and it seems the farm nonsense is gone.  I also had to “unfriend” several people because my feed quickly became inundated.  I don’t know if there is any way to be facebook friends with someone but not get all their stuff on my page?  I’m still working on that one.

I like facebook (so far) for keeping in touch with a few friends and family, but its not really set up for a surfboard design conversation.  I do get posts on several surfing related photo and art sites, which is nice.

Instagram is great for photos, I love “following” certain people in instagram, because man there are some great photos out there, wave photos, surfing photos, and surfboard photos.  But again, no real conversations, even less than facebook, just great photos with a sentence or two of commentary, or sometimes nothing but the photo.

I have tried blogging, but don’t like the one-sided-ness of it.  Conversation, discussion, question-and-answer, to me that’s where its at.  Swaylocks is set up for it, but the general population of the site seems to be moving away from that.  Build threads with lots of photos are becoming rare.

Like a lot of people here, I also occasionally frequent the ERBB (surfer mag forum).

Oh so true,

Having been shot down in flames with multiple build treads on the GD.

Just not provocative enmough, I guess.

Long live the “Bugs Club”

Facebook can be a zoo!

“2 many post a holics”

Once you limit the kooks FB is

still OK for keeping up with family and freinds.

Instagram?

A cool  few to follow…

Kazuma is one of the better.

Freely shares his wisdom,

We all feed, no bitching and the guy is genuine…

I’ll say that noting including ERBB is like Sway’s.

Got some serious shit rolling around in my head.

Really would like to put my thoughts out there…

Only who would know WTF I’m sayin’?

Oh, and “Yorky” (a guy with a finger on the pulse).

And “Boy” has started a fire burning something fierce

I’m considering EPS.

God save me!!!

Sounds interesting!  I only built one board with eps, and I hated shaping it (a longboard), but I really like the way it feels riding it!

I reckon the best thing about this site is the search function. Pretty much any question I can think of has been covered at some time. Very helpful.

I follow beachgrit on Instagram.  Will check out their website.

I get my info by watching a guy who is probably on board #3 do extensive videos on Youtube showing in painful detail How To Build A Surfboard.

If you haven’t tried it yet, Pinterest has a ton of board stuff.
